Kelley Standard Admission Decisions

I wanted to update you all on my current situation with the appeal.

So I sent in my appeal letter a few days after receiving my "Option II" offer in the mail in mid-July. I was told that it would take a week or two for admissions to make a final decision.

Two weeks went by...no word. I sent in an e-mail and was told that they needed "more time" because they were tied up. I had to come to campus early for RA training so I went and personally met the Undergraduate Chair of the Kelley School and discussed the matter further with him.

It turns out my status was bumped up to "Deferred". Only 20 people were given this offer this year. It is like in between getting accepted and Option II.
I have to earn Bs or better in all of my courses this Fall semester and I will be in. So this just goes to show that maybe an appeal may not automatically get you accepted, but if you try to get SOMETHING out of it you just might get something. I definitely feel like I have been given a fair compromise and I am going to prove to them through my grades this semester that I am capable of being a Kelley student. :) I would not have been able to risk doing Option II because that would have taken up my entire sophomore year. They cut it short for me so I can be admitted by January. Oh and as an added perk, I was told that I would save $500 by not officially being a "Kelley student" this semester...lol.

Good luck to everyone and have a great year!

Never heard of the deferred route for getting into Kelley. That is great news!

Yeah...I had no clue it existed myself :P
I was very surprised...and overall I am satisfied and up for the challenge.

It is getting harder to get in. One thing to keep in mind--if you don't get a B or better in math or technology classes, it looks like you won't be a good business student since those are basic skills you should be good at. And the deferrals--if the school had over a 1000 applications and only gave out 20 deferrals, don't count on getting one even if you're borderline. And if you don't make the grades, they can always deny you admission.
