My first year at IU was great. Overall it was an awesome experience and I made many long lasting friends. Being a non-direct was a bit stressful but I learned a lot from it.

I made a thread awhile ago regarding my first semester grades and I just received my second semester grades today. I currently have one (B-) going through the admissions process.

For my application I wrote a solid essay and was a part of the student government this year.

I had a rough start in X100 first semester and luckily pulled through by the end, but I am confident that I can do well in business courses.

I am also signed up to take E201, M118, and L201 over the summer at my cc so I won't be behind on I-Core prerequisites.

I've gotten mixed opinions on getting accepted since Kelley has gotten harder to get into so I am a bit worried. Any input is appreciated..I'll definitely post up my results sometime in June.

A and A- in A100 and A201 looks really strong. I think those classes are good indicators of how you will do in Kelley, and those are nice grades. A lot of applicants won’t have any EC’s, and your student government will probably trump most students that have a B- or two and no EC’s.

Congratulations on having such a strong freshman year. I know it is not an easy thing to do if you are not a direct admit, especially if you got off to a bad start. I think you did very well and your hard work will be rewarded.

Shinie, so glad your X100 grade did not hurt you. Did the CSCI A110 help for K201? Kelley probably liked your K201 grade a lot. I feel for your friend. There is no reason to take both finite and calculus, though. He might have been alright if he just took calculus and did finite after being accepted to Kelley.

CC’ers are 2-0 getting in so far. Pretty good!

Thank you bthomp! I appreciate a lot of the help you’ve given here.

CSCI A110 didn’t help as much as I thought it would. I feel like we covered more material on coding/programming rather than Access and Excel. Maybe it was because of my lab instructor. The class would definitely benefit those who don’t have much of a grasp on computers and help them transition into K201.

I initially decided to take the class thinking it would cover the N&M credit but apparently M119 or M118 already covers the mathematical sciences part of the N&M credit and CSCI doesn’t count as a Natural Science course so the class turned out to be just an elective.

I guess the class can be beneficial to some students but personally it didn’t benefit me much. My lab class was disorganized and it was difficult knowing which assignments were assigned and the deadlines. My instructors also took awhile responding to emails.

In order to pass K201 or A100, it’s all about just doing a lot of the practice materials. Passing these two courses really came down to the amount of work put into them. One of my friends who took 2 years of advanced accounting in high school and is also a direct admit received a C in A100 because he only went through 3 or 4 practice tests. I went through all of the given practice exams. My floormate that studied K201 with me every week never took CSCI but received an A with his effort. We both did all of the practice tests and repeated the mock practical several times.

Personally I think anyone with enough motivation and basic computer skills can get at least a B in K201 without taking CSCI A110.

Pardon my intrusion, but I have direct admit status already(barely made it with a 1310 SAT composite) and have a few questions. I’ll be starting in the Fall.

what is Kelley like?
I’m interested in applied mathematics and possibly pre-med, how tough is the challenge of double majoring in Kelley and one of these two?

I’m not sure exactly how heavy I want my course load, but I would like it pretty full.

I’ve done ACP physics and gotten a B and will most likely retake in order to get an A.

Any advice on dorm life and first year stuff? on academics?

The I-Core prereqs are meant to be challenging. I would prefer you double up on mathematics and business since there are more math courses that can complement your Kelley requirements.

Two of my roommates are majoring in math and both of them found the M211 and 212 classes to be very difficult. They also told me it really came down to which professor they took it with because some are literally impossible to get B’s in. I took AP Calc AB in high school and had a perfect score on the math portion of my ACT and thought M119 was a bit tricky at times.

My other roommate (I lived in a quad) is doing pre-med and thought the weed-out bio class was difficult. One of my floormates took orgo last semster and almost died from the amount of work he had to do.

Nothing in your selections will be easy but I think you’ll be fine as long as you stay focused on academics. Use [Grade Distribution Database: Office of the Registrar: Indiana University Bloomington](http://gradedistribution.registrar.indiana.edu/) to find easier classes w/ better gpa averages later when you sign up for classes.

I didn’t take a heavy course load this year in order to be safe for Kelley but I would definitely recommend taking 15-17 credits per semester since you’re already direct. It’s definitely manageable. I usually spent a lot of time studying 2-3 days before tests and then only spent a few minutes reviewing on some weekdays.

As for dorms, I was put into Central rather than Northwest where I had asked for. I ended up having a great floor and became very good friends with everyone. I know some people that dislike their floor and end up joining a fraternity or switching places. You’ll always find a spot somewhere. You’re gonna love college!

You would probably need 150-170 credits to double major in business and, say, math or some other COAS major, since business and COAS are different schools. You need at least sixty credits from Kelley, of which only twenty credits can be applied to a COAS degree, most of which require 122 credits minimum.

I would just accept the B in Physics and move on. That is a good grade, and the class will probably be tougher at IUB than it was at your high school.

if i get 4.0 in the fall

GPA: 3.63

I am also in the International business association as my EC

So basically, how good are my chances of getting into kelley?

I am really worried because i heard kelley get alot of harder

and my friends told me i have no chance because of the W and C+

k201 gets easier the 2nd half so thatl be nice. make sure you stay on top of all your work. The 3rd test in M118 is the least difficult. make sure you study a TON for that. your going to want to score as high as possible on that. thatl be your opportunity to bring up your C+ because the final is pretty difficult.

Good luck and don’t be so hung on getting into the business school. Begin thinking of second choices but don’t give up. Work as hard as you can and cross your fingers. Try joining some more extra curricular activities too. Also, make sure you bet a B or higher in those community college courses because Kelley will look at those too.

it will definitely put you in a better position if you have above a 3.5 gpa but there are no guarantees any more. you have a C+ and W on your transcript. my best advice would be to join some more extra curricular activities and maybe volunteer. people have gotten in with those stats while many others have been turned down.

stick out with extra curricular activities and maybe some volunteer work and dont get any more grades below a B or W’s.

if you end up liking the excel part of k201, try taking x201 afterwards. im in it right now and its not bad at all. it’ll be another i-core class to get out of the way.

You should talk to the admissions people at some point. I went in to discuss my B- first semester and they told me not to worry and to improve my grades second semester. I ended up applying and getting in with a 3.37 gpa.

One of my friends actually got in with a W in A100 and a C+ in M119 during my freshman year. She had those two grades in her first semester but did well her 2nd semester. She ended up with a 3.5 gpa when applying.

Just don’t get any more grades lower than a B- and I think you should be fine. The C+ in BIO won’t hurt as much as getting a C+ in a business course. If you can also get an A/A- in your business courses this semester, you should have a good chance.
