<p>Did anyone get the invitation email from Kellogg Honors College ? I know it doesnt mean i am admitted to Cal Poly. But does that mean i have higher chance ?</p>
<p>My son received the Kellogg Honors College invitation. I would assume you both are admitted.</p>
<p>It’s not a sure thing, but I think the invitation goes to higher qualified applicants.</p>

<p>Congrats! I agree with ‘MLM’. I think CPP admits first by major, therefore sent the email. My daughter also received a similar email…In addition to the invitation to apply to the Kellogg Honors program, they used the words “provisional” admission. It read, “Thank you very much for applying to the College of Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona.* Based on your excellent academic record, the College has recommended you for admission. As a reminder, your admission will be provisional, and you must meet all deadlines as required by the Office of Admissions.* Check your email regularly for messages from Cal Poly Pomona, and view your official admissions notification status in January by logging in to BroncoDirect.”…congrats again to everyone who has heard back and best of luck for others still waiting… :)</p>

<p>I’m a sophomore at cpp, last year after my second quarter they invited me to the honors college because I maintained a high enough GPA.</p>
<p>“mrsleonore” I’m not sure if my daughter will be accepting as she has applied at a number of schools. SLO and CPP are schools that she is considering plus a few UCs. A couple of privates. CPP and SLO are my top choices for her. Hands on learning and tuition are big factors for us ;)</p>

<p>I’m in the Honors program. Just keep in mind when planning out your years at Cal Poly, that you have to take a certain amount of Honors courses. You might be able to count some as general education classes anyway, so you get the general ed credit and credit for Honors. Sometimes it might not work out that way and you end up taking an extra course that you don’t really need just for Honors credit. That’s what it’s like for me. Since I transferred in, I already had my general education completed so the classes I take for Honors aren’t classes I need. Also, you don’t get priority registration every quarter, only for the quarters in which you enroll in an Honors course.</p>
<p>The Honors classes aren’t supposed to be “harder”, they’re supposed to inspire more critical thinking, more discussions, etc. Not necessarily more work. I’m honestly not too sure how engineering students do in Honors. I’m new this year so I haven’t really met many people yet. However, I can tell you that about half of the students in the program are engineering students (I think there’s about 200 students total). Also it’s not like if you have one bad quarter you’re kicked out. You’ll be put on a two quarter probation period to bring your GPA up. I’ve been told many times that it’s very uncommon for students to be kicked out because of GPA. It’s always because students don’t complete their yearly civic engagement requirement (volunteering).</p>

<p>Ocmomof3, the honors program is different from the four year pledge program. Both the four year pledge and the honors program will grant your daughter priority registration. However, that’s where the similarities end. The honors program, on top of priority registration, will offer smaller class sizes, scholarships and research opportunities, and a “honors” distinction on transcripts and diploma. On the other hand, the four year pledge is simply a program that grants a student priority registration, given the premise that the student will lay out their classes for the upcoming quarters and will plan on graduating in four (or five for architecture) years. </p>
<p>Know that a minimum GPA of 3.3 must be held throughout the duration of the honors college.</p>
<p>Here are some statistics from the brochure I received last year. These are 2010 freshman class statistics. </p>
<p>SAT Math: High/800 Low/580 Mean/673
SAT Critical Reading: H/800 L/550 Mean/643
ACT English: H/35 L/23 Mean/29

<p>ocmomof3: Apologies for taking so long to reply… I can’t tell you what the likelihood is of her being accepted. It doesn’t matter that she’s a freshman; there are quite a few freshman in Honors. They don’t send that invitation to just anyone so please encourage her to apply. At this point it really just comes down to her application/essays. There’s nothing to lose. I don’t understand why some people wouldn’t apply after getting an invitation!</p>

<p>I took a self-guided tour of the campus in January. The guy I met at the Honors College told me that there are about 200 members out of an undergraduate population of around 16,000. I don’t really know about the acceptance rate for freshmen specifically but I hope this helps.</p>
<p>I’ve got to say I’m a bit bummed that they moved back the timeline for admissions decisions from mid-March to April. I wonder why that is. Not that I’m upset or anything, I’m just really anxious to hear back from the Honors College. Anyone else nervous? Good luck everyone!</p>
