Kelly/Honors

My son just got his acceptance packet (he learned online he was admitted 2 weeks ago but we live overseas so mail is slow). He is qualified for direct admit to Kelly - will he get a separate letter from them? How long will that take? He is also qualified for scholarship money - when will he hear about that?
There was no invitation to apply to the honors program but I understand that he can apply anyway: Information for Prospective Students
If he is going to be in the Kelly school then should he wait and apply to the Kelly Honors Program at the end of his freshman year? I'm confused about how the 2 programs work - do they overlap?

Did he apply prior to 11/1? That is the priority date for the automatic academic scholarship funds. The notification of the award came with my daughter's acceptance letter.

Usually the invitation to apply to the Hutton Honors College comes with that letter also. It took less than 2 weeks after my D sent in the selective scholarship application from Hutton for her to be notified she was admitted to Hutton. Information on any additional scholarship money will come later.

Hutton is a different program than the Business school program. Classes from many schools at the university offer honors classes through Hutton, while the Mitte (I think that's the name of it--sorry all you business majors--a liberal arts parent here) Program is specific to the School of Business. One could be in both programs.

It's odd that your son didn't receive info on the scholarship or Hutton if he is eligible to be a direct admit. I'm wondering if they have the correct information on his scores, etc.?

As rrah said, November 1st was the priority date. However, even if your son applied after that date, he may still be eligible for a smaller amount.

My own son applied too late for the deadline (in December, this was back in 2005), but still received a scholarship of $1,000 per year, $4,000 total (versus the $2,000 per year, $8,000 total he would have been entitled to had he applied by the November 1st priority date).

P.S. Also, it's the Kelley School, not the Kelly school--and as rrah indicated, the Kelley school's honors program is referred to as the Mitte Honors Program. You need a 3.7 GPA during your first semester or first year at IU-B to get into either the Mitte or Hutton Honors Programs as college students. I'm not sure what it takes to get admitted as an incoming high school student.

He applied before Nov 1 so it sounds like he may have to call and ask them about it. He should get the $9000 scholarship.
