ny times article

Did you guys respond to the email? I did.

^idk what to say in response to the email like thanks for the help and i guess see u in the minimal chance i get in??? LOL…

did u guys ever meet the director in person?

Btw, are the KWH “recruitments” for English majors? Or based on the essays sent to penn?

@Babolat1 My D was interested in KWH so she sent an email requesting information. She later sent in writing samples directly to the asst. director of recruitment. Per the asst. director the writing samples were made part of her admission file.

KWH definitely does NOT recruit just English majors. On the contrary, a large part of KWH’s mission–and that of Penn in general–is to foster excellence in writing across the entire spectrum of academic and career interests. For more on that, take a look at this New York Times article about KWH, if you haven’t already done so:

when did you guys email the assistant director of recruitment? i emailed her around the second week of november and i haven’t gotten any response ):

What are you supposed to say in email to the assistant director of recruitment if you are the one initiating contact about participating in the writer’s house? Sorry just a bit confused on how this works exactly.

It’s pretty simple- just go to the KWH website. It has a sidebar with an email address where you can request a information packet. It will be mailed to you with a personalized short handwritten note. Then just email her directly asking to send writing samples n then take it from there.

@gloriouschicken Did you check your spam mail? Did you request the info packet? We did n it was sent within the week.

have any of you recruits gotten interviews?

My D did get an admission interview. The interviewer did not know much about KWH.

did ur daughter actually get recruited tho or didn’t you say that they were just like “thanks for the interest”?

This was the asst director email to her:

"This is a way to make it clear to Admissions, from our end of things, that you’ve been proactive in reaching out to us, and that we hope if you’re admitted you’ll become part of our community.

Of course, this isn’t an “automatic in”–but it can help."

So an strong recruitment statement no but we will take it as support and a good sign.

@gymratjudy, yes, i checked my spam mail and requested an info packet! when did you send your email, and was it sent to jjossely@writing.upenn.edu? i sent mine around november 10 and i heard she takes a while to reply :

Yes thats the right person. She responded right away with an email n then the package arrived less than 2 weeks later. I believe we made contact during the summer. It might be that she is overwhelmed right now with the early admission writing samples.

Maybe send another email just in case your original got lost in the mix.

aw man, it’s probably too late for me since i’m apply early decision ): thank you, though!

How much of an influence do we think being recruited has? (For a candidate of “significant interest”). Can it make up for less-than-stellar grades? Does anyone know someone who got into Penn with KWH help? All the accepted recruits on CC seem to be valedictorians and students who would be perfectly qualified w/o KWH assistance. Good luck to all! :)

i def think it can help to counterbalance grades but i dont think it helps that much for like wharton
