how do they choose which students go where from the honors program?

I'm guessing by when you submit your housing application and deposit. WVF is considered to be the better of the two so it no doubt will go to those who apply first.

How housing goes for freshmen now: not exactly sure.
I lived in Kennedy freshman year, and it was great, but nothing like senior year in WVB. The way housing went from 01 to 06 was like this:
1. You apply for housing
2. The people that apply on time are given a lottery number, based on your year. The older you are, the better your number tends to be.
3. You show up at a given time (numbers 1-50 at 6:00 PM on Friday, 51-100 at 6:15 for example) or you send a proxy.
4. You pick what room you want and its yours.
If they hand out as many lottery numbers as rooms, then you get a similar waitlist number. After people on regular list cancel, you get to pick according to your waitlist number.
I got a waitlist number of around 600 one year, and got on campus no problem.

They built WV while I was there, but I assume Freshmen go to Kennedy and you get access to WVF sophomore year.

WVF is only for freshman honors students. The earlier you submit your housing deposit and specify honors housing, the better chance you get of being in WVF.

Wow, West Village for freshmen!?!? Spoiled punks ;) I'm amazed (and really jealous)

The big question will be how much more expensive is WVF? The housing app estimated only $260 more than standard freshman housing. However, I am hearing now that this estimate may be way to low.

I think that the estimate is low. As I have posted before this spring07 the bill was $2475.00 for WVF for the semester.

what is the difference between the two dorms. my d was accepted into honors, is it really better to live in an honors dorm and why. does it get obnoxious only being with people in the honors program. any help is appreciated. thanks

There is a big difference between WVF and Kennedy. WVF is brand new suite style rooms. The room we saw on the tour had 3 2 person bedrooms, kitchen (full) and living area. Kennedy, while also suite style has no real kitchen in the room, but there is a common kitchen in the basement. The bulding is a charming old brownstone, much more the norm as far as what you would expect to see in Boston. And locations are much different as well, WVF is right in the middle of campus, near the classrooms, while Kennedy is further away from classroom buildings, but closer to the two dining halls.

As far as living with other honors students, etc., I think that is strictly a matter of preference. Some kids prefer to live with kids in their major, etc.

ebeee, yes you had posted that information before. While WVF is brand new perhaps one could justify a significant difference in cost, but I definitely can't see how they can justify that for Kennedy.

thanks, but does the honors dorms have special programs, i mean besides what they look like what is the differnce between them and regular freshman dorms, or is it just the "honor" of getting to live there

It is just the upgraded facility. Plus the honors offices are on the bottom floor of WVF so it is convenient to drop in on the honors academic advisors with questions, etc. There are special programs for honors kids but they are for all kids whether in Kennedy, WVF, or other dorms. RatedPG, I hope I didn't mislead you, I don't know the cost for Kennedy..not sure it costs more than Stetson where the freshman are mostly housed..

The difference between Kennedy and Stetson is 4 per bathroom and private living room vs. a single room with a bathroom shared by the other 99 people in your hallway. That setup is much quieter and nicer to live, where Stetson can be f'n crazy on Thursday-Sunday nights.
WVF is much nicer than both, with bigger rooms, kitchen, bigger living areas with much better architecture (windows and such).

ebeee, no you didn't mislead. I was simply stating that if there is a premium on "honors housing" I don't see how Kennedy could be included in that increased charge. On the housing application is simply said "honors housing", you could not specify WVF or Kennedy. So if WVF was $2475 this spring, how much is "standard freshman housing"?

ebeeeee, I went back and checked rates because I had also posted the rate for standard double before (for the Stetson freshman dorms); you had actually posted $3475/semester for a double room at WVF compared to $2920/semester that we paid this year for the doubles at Stetson. Does that sound right?

scansmom, hmm. I might have made a typo.. I was billed $3475 on 7/4/06 for Fall Semester. My Spring bill is at work but the estimate financial aid gave me last summer is with me and it shows $3475 for each semester. Bottom line is you should call housing and ask.
