Kent School [Kent, CT]

Thread to share information about kent, whether you're a future, current, or past student at Kent School. Thanks.

Kent looks like an awesome school. I’m applying there next year. I really like their reading lists. I think they’re very well thought out. Though I haven’t gotten to everything on here quite yet…

One word: crew. I’ve heard that their crew program is excellent an they raced in some British Regatta or something. European if not British. My brothers did crew so I’m looking forward to it – and while I don’t HAVE to have it when applying to BS, its a good bonus (:

I graduated from Kent and have appreciated both the commitment of the faculty (they really are mentors) and the quality of the community (lifelong friends and good values). It is a beautiful location - maybe one of the most beautiful…and you’re right…great English program and crew is really strong. They were the first US team to ever compete at Henley Royal Regatta. If you want a book about it, read Men of Kent: Ten Boys, A Fast Boat, and the Coach Who Made Them Champions. Other sports are strong there…music is, too. It’s quite a traditional place with a dress code and a strong tie to the Episcopal church. It is a special place for sure…and not quite as stuffy as some other places…at least from what I know of other places!

@lionsandlynx,
Specifically, how’s Kent’s choral music dept.? Does their chorus sing any major works? (Mozart Requiem, Britten Ceremony of Carols, etc.)

And what was your experience with the Kent English dept.? Did you read good books, write a lot, etc.

I’m a current Kent student and I really like the school…actually missing being there a little.

Is a sport required every term?

Yes and no. An afternoon activity is required every term. Some people participate in drama for two terms and a sport for the other one. You need to do a sport or physical activity for at least one and you have to tryout/audition for something in two terms im pretty sure. There are certain rules about it and it can be found in the handbook. If you arent really into sports there are other options, but the school encourages the students to try new things.
