Kent school questions???

Hi i’m a girl going to Kent School (CT) this fall as a boarder and I have a couple questions for a current student!

  1. Are students really cliquey or are they more accepting and anyone can hang out with anyone?? Is there a social dynamic like hockey players are only friends with other hockey players, or is it more of a community, if that makes sense?
  2. I hear weekends are really boring, are there any parties or fun things to do?? Also i hear there are lots of drugs and things, is this true?
  3. I know the dress code is strict, but is it easy to get used to? Do you have any reccomendations on places to shop/ clothes that are important to get/ etc.?? Does it get less strict throughout the year and do girls always follow it?
  4. Is there lots of homework/ enough teacher help for students?

Thank you soo much !!!

  1. There is a huge sense of community while remaining cliquey at the same time. Sports kids will hang out with other kids of their sports, especially during that season since you see each other after school and you will probably go to meals together. But people hang out with their friends regardless.
  2. The weekends aren't boring but its kinda up to you to make them fun. There are blue key activities (student run activities) that are actually fun sometimes like dances or ice cream plus trips to the mall, dodgeball, soccer and the gym is almost always open. You can also go to town so there is plenty to do. Yes we have had drug issues, but so does every boarding school believe me. Kent is cracking down on it so its nothing to worry about, no one is going to make you do drugs and chances are if someone is on drugs you wont know.
  3. Dress code is strict depending on the teachers and what grade you are in. If you are a freshman then you really need to be in dress code because seniors can and will dress code you along with teachers. No one is really going to say anything unless its obviously out of dress code. Girls don't always follow it, but trust me the seniors will be on them this year and they will be in dress code. Some staple brands are jcrew, brooks brothers, vineyard vines, lilly pulitzer, and the like. There are also specific items a lot of people own, such as ll bean snow boots ( bean boots) and hunter rain boots.
  4. There is a decent amount of homework but its completely manageable. The only reason some people struggle with the amount is if they are in too many difficult classes (such as APs) as well as if they aren't spending time doing there homework and are leaving it till last minute. There is tons of teacher help there are teachers in the common rooms every night during study hall, always a math one on duty, teachers live in your dorm
