Kent School

I visited Kent School recently and while visiting the school implied that there are a lot of kids each year who chose not to return for the next school year. Why is this? Also does the school have drug problems? Cheating problems? Or any other problems that are worth knowing before you choose to attend the school? I would appreciate hearing about anything about the school.

We have a close family friend whose son just graduated Kent, and my DD interviewed (and was accepted there) this year. Based on these inputs I would offer the following thoughts about Kent. First, it is a good quality school academically and in extracurriculars. Thier campus is beautiful, though somehow slightly foreboding, in our view. On our visits (interview and revisit) a lot of the kids did not look happy (maybe tired and worn down?). I do not think the school has any particularly large turnover problem and am not sure where you got that from. Having said that, please know that the culture of this school is driven very strongly by rich New Yorkers. They dominate Kent, with all the attendant issues, including drug use. Search this board and you will learn more about Kent: its strengths and its issues.

There are also some international students from Germany and other countries who only spend one or two years abroad at Kent. Students have many different reasons for why they leave any school but I would say that I have heard of most people leaving because the school was not the perfect fit for them

Devolution…where did your daughter decide to go? Is she at Kent? I heard of a death of a student this fall that may have been drug/alcohol related…

It’s been over a year since s/he last logged on… I doubt you’ll get a response.

^ As do I. Closing.
