Kent vs. Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH)

Just wondering if anyone had thoughts in comparing these two schools. My applicant has acceptances from them, and we did not visit either. We WILL go to revist days. I know there are NMH parents here...any Kent parents? Or students?

Thanks for any information that you can provide.

Really???? I got into Kent as well! Really you did not visit it? You must have a very strong profile! It will take a long time to write about the pros at kent.
They have more AP classes, better campus it's better then NMH in short words. Lol, I will keep posting resons!

It really depends on what they like. NMH is totally laid back, compared to other BS's, and it still has challenging academics. I don't know much about Kent, but Aussie either really likes Kent, or really dislikes NMH. (I got in to NMH, by the way...)

BrooklynGuy, you will really have to visit and see what you and your applicant like the best. I have no experience with Kent. My son has two acquaintances who have experiences with the school; they are both soccer players and were contacted and invited to apply by the soccer coach. (He evidently was a coach on a foreign soccer trip they attended.) I have heard that one is happy there; while the other did not care for the school and applied to Exeter, SPS, and NMH instead (but did not get in).
You know that I love NMH, as do my two sons. My daughter wanted to go as well, but had to choose between bs and continuing her gymnastics career. The campus is gorgeous, but I can't compare. The staff and faculty are a caring, wonderful group of people....I believe you will feel their warmth immediately. Many of them are from other top bs, but chose to come to NMH for the difference it represents in bs. It really strives to see each child as an individual and educate not just their head (intellect), but their heart (concern for those close by as well as the wider world), and hand (good, honest work) as well. They strive to create caring individuals who will go out into the world and make a difference. The students are friendly as well, very unlike our public school where kids zip by with their heads down and disregard people around them. Here, the young people are bright and alert and my husband and I get lots of "hello's" and friend smiles. My son has many friends, everyone is very accepting. Kids can feel comfortable being themselves. From the BSR stats (which I guess are not necessarily accurate), I see that Kent has 25 AP's vs NMH's 22. I think both of those numbers are good as no one is going to take 20+AP's anyway! NMH has the bigger endowment, and we have found NMH to be generous with FA. My son's classes have had 8-12 students in them...I suppose that is probably comparable as well. I see similar college matric. names as well. It will really have to come down to where your applicant feels the most comfortable.

Darn, Keylyme proved her side before me. I wasn't done researching! lol

keylyme - do you know where I can find NMH college matric info? From their website?

It's okay, Aussie. You've visited both schools, I assume. Please feel free to say whatever you feel about either school. I have absolutely no experience with Kent, so I can only speak for NMH. More than one opinion is valued.
