@Tranchlord 2380?! That’s a huge score! I think Kenyon’s just being cautious with their admissions. They had a nearly 110% rise in International Applicants and are probably having a tough time estimating yield rates.

They may not want to admit over-qualified students because they could worried that people like you might get admitted at better places elsewhere and won’t come to Kenyon after all.

This is the first RD I have received. I know they had a huge app increase but it just makes me think about how I can get into a Williams or Middlebury if I couldn’t get into Kenyon (no offence meant to Kenyon students etc). You guys make me much better though, thanks :).

Two things to note though :-

I was rejected by UVa EA (and got similar ■■■-esque reactions on the UVa decisions thread). They may or may not have seen my 2380 though (got it in December). The point is I’m not exactly a top top applicant.

I got that interview form thing from Kenyon. I never sent it back, I just forgot about it. Let’s be fair here: I kind of did apply to Kenyon just for the heck of it.

@Trenchlord I’m feeling EXACTLY the same way you are. After getting rejected from Kenyon with a 2170 SAT and 1590/1600 SAT II, I’m feeling really worried about my other colleges… I had applied EA to Princeton and was deferred.

@tomatosprouts I did and had a great interview. Also filled in the additional “why Kenyon” and “where are you from” form that they sent me in January. I don’t blame them though. They got over twice as many international applications as last year so the competition was tougher than expected.

During his information session, the Kenyon admissions guy said flat out “We show love to kids who show love for Kenyon,” and indeed Kenyon is one of the few selective colleges that lists “Level of Applicant’s Interest” as a “Very Important” factor in admissions decisions.

I interviewed, overnighted, and sent an email to my rep about how Kenyon was my first choice. We’ll see how it works out when decisions are mailed.

i just want to know already. Also why did apps increase so much? It makes me so nervous, because I have the stats to get in in 2013 but I’m not sure about now.

@ifoundalaska Are you talking about decisions within the United States? I thought I remember reading that Kenyon sends RD decisions out on the 31st

@ifoundlaska Kenyon removed their writing supplement this year I, which is why the applications shot up so high I think.
Skidmore and Grinnell experienced something similar when they removed their Writing Supplements for Class of 2017.

Yes.I am an international student.2017 data showed that no one was accepted from the wait list in Kenyon. This year there was 63% increase in the application pool.I still hope to get the good news.:)

@Chandre This year there was a 110% increase in international applicants, so we internationals are even more disadvantaged than the rest of the pool…

By the way, for the class of 2017, 366 students accepted their place on the wait-list and 6 actually enrolled. I got this data from the 2013-14 CDS.

A friend of mine got an email informing them that they had been wait-listed like an hour ago. I am hoping this means acceptances and rejections also go out soon…
