@utli57 I’m not sure what went on with Kenyon this year. It seems that there were just many extremely qualified students. Don’t worry until you get your decision. Just because you weren’t exactly what Kenyon was looking for doesn’t mean that you won’t be exactly what another school is looking for. To some extent the percentages don’t mean much because they accept a percentage of students, but that is a percentage of what they see as “the kenyon student”.
@annaisabella I did see on the Kenyon Twitter account that there was a record number of applications. Still very disappointing news, though, especially since my interview went so well. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see about Carleton - should find out by mail early next week.
First of all, congratulations to everyone who got the “thumbs up!” Last year, Kenyon dropped its supplemental essay and waived its app fee and - no surprise - a lot more people applied. To try to keep its yield from dropping too much, Kenyon bumped its ED admits, sent out a lot of that clever mail to applicants, and more than doubled its waitlist.
No telling what will happen this year, but last year 38 were admitted off the list, so there is hope! The general advice out there about how to increase your chances is to let your regional rep know that you are still interested. If you interviewed with a different person, dig out their card and let them know, too. And, to everyone who is going crazy this month, read this awesome op-ed piece from the NYT (and the comments, too): http://nyti.ms/1Dez9WQ.
@utli57 don’t give up hope! My waitlist at Kenyon yesterday made me start to lose hope about Carleton as well, but I just received my Carleton acceptance with a full ride! I trust that admissions officers do a good job of recognizing who will be the best fit at their college
A year from now, everybody will be settled into their new colleges and will feel like it is the BEST fit for them. Just hang tough, everybody!
I was put on the wait list as well fully expecting to get rejected…I do not feel nearly as qualified as many of you on here. I have an 88 unweighted average and a 1780 SAT score. My essay, EC and recs are great but I am still kind of shocked. Any idea what’s up with the large range of credentials of people waitlisted?
can’t believe i got in. I am thrilled. Best of luck to everyone hearing back from more schools this week. We will all end up where we are meant to be! don’t waste your time on a school that doesn’t want you!
Hi everyone, I was accepted and am still in shock. I figured I’d make one of these to help. Please do not let anyone tell you you’ll be rejected for mediocre stats! It really is about what you put into your demonstrated interest and application!

Why do you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I visited Kenyon on a travel scholarship grant in the fall, talked to the dean for over 2 hours 1-on-1, and submitted art portfolio
Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted:
accepted: UCSB, UM-Ann Arbor, Beloit, Kalamazoo, Ithaca
rejected: Vassar, Colby, UCLA
waitlisted: Bard, Tulane
@tarikd You already got your Bard decision?
@annaisabella oops, I meant deferred for Bard, sorry for the confusion. And my ACT was a 27* superscored to a 28
And…you already heard from Vassar too?
Also waitlisted. I wonder how many of us waitliated can actually get in. I think im going to opt out of the waitlist.
Anyone know why I was waitlisted here but accepted to Carleton? Trying to figure it out because my stats seemed higher than the usual admissions profile (2250 SAT, Top 8%, 3.83/4.43 GPA, really good essays and recommendations, internationally published writing).
I’m thinking it has to do with fit in the school.
If I didn’t hear back yet is that bad?
@sammythang1234 waitlisted too but admitted to Bowdoin and early write admission to Amherst. 2290 SAT, 3.9 GPA published too, writing a novel, 34 ACT very confused but it’s ok.
@sammythang1234 @bsalum Glad I’m not the only one who is terribly confused and somewhat frustrated
i’ve heard people talk about the Tufts syndrome, which is when a school like Kenyon doesn’t accept overqualified students, because the college is worried that the student only applied as a back up to ivies.
@rainyears
Maybe but I should have shown more interest. Couldn’t get out there for a visit (perhaps correctly interpreted as not a priority) and reading through the threads, there are a ton of English/theatre arts people. I really was interested, but just not enough. My fault. Congrats to admits! Good luck to wait listed!
Accepted and shocked by the fact after seeing the people who were waitlisted. 2080 SAT superscored and 4.1 GPA weighted.
Kenyon is likely doing yield protection this year, as I was accepted to Wesleyan, Vassar, and Carleton but waitlisted here.
