Kenyon ED/merit aide???

My son definitely wants to go to Kenyon but didn't apply ED because we wanted to compare merit aide packages (hopefully). He's getting nervous he didn't apply ED and wonders if this will hurt his chances at merit aide. Should we consider asking for ED II? Here are his stats:

GPA: 3.6 unweighted, 4.5 weighted
SAT: 800 M, 730V, 750 W
ACT: 32
AP's: All 5"s on five AP exams
Nat'l Merit Semifinalist, Governor's Scholar, sev'l other awards

Witty, philosophical essay about travel abroad; spent a lot of time on supplemental appln.

Any advice on likelihood of merit aide and whether it would help to switch to ED II??

I saw a thread about merit interviews/applns. There was no separate appln. for merit scholarships at Kenyon, right? If so, we're in big trouble!
Thanks much!

wat abt his ECs??

Sorry to say that your son is already "out of the money" for Kenyon's largests scholarships because they had an application completion date of 12/15

**Kenyon Honor, Science, and Trustee Opportunity Scholarships **

These are the most competitive and valued merit scholarships offered at Kenyon. They range in size, with the largest award covering approximately half the comprehensive cost of a year at Kenyon. While there are no specific grade point averages or scores that recipients must obtain to be considered for these scholarships, recipients are often at or near the top of their class and have received other selective scholarships or talentrecognition programs, such as National Merit Scholarships, National Achievement Scholarships Program, National Hispanic Scholarship, or National Council of Teachers of English awards.
Honors Scholarships are awarded to students who represent excellence in the liberal arts.

Science Scholars are those students who show promise to excel in the natural sciences.

Trustee Opportunity Scholars are top students who come from underrepresented backgrounds, including first-generation students.

To be considered for these top merit scholarships, students must complete their applications by December 15.

**Distinguished Academic Scholarships **

This scholarship program recognizes outstanding students whose academic achievement, leadership potential, and accomplishments in activities place them in **the top 10 to 15 percent of admitted students. These scholarships range in value up to $10,000 per year. **

I would guess that he would still be eligible for this scholarship because it is not granted until the entire freshman class has been admitted.

If you still need to compare FA offers, imho, I still do not think that it is a good idea for him to appy ED (even though it is ED II) because you still lose your ability to compare packages. If he is not finished with his applications, he should still look at schools where he would be in line for merit aid.

I took the "application" mentioned on the web site to be the common app since there was no link to anything or other info to apply for merit aid. I hope this is true!!!!!!!!!

**Academic Scholarship Deadlines **

Students applying for academic scholarships must file the admission application by December 15.

These scholarships include the Honor and Science Scholars Program; Trustee Opportunity Scholars; Distinguished Academic Scholarships; and National Merit Corporation Scholarships.

I thinks this means that while you did not have to apply ED, but you had to have your application in my 12/15 in order to be considered for these scholarships.

I don't think applying ED would help: if you are committing ED, why would Kenyon need to award merit aid? Most schools are awarding merit aid to candidates that they think they will have to compete for with other schools.
