Kenyon mailings

Could Kenyon be any more obnoxious with their mailings?

Oh, you mean the multiple form letters from professors in departments that don’t interest you?

I like it.

As a parent, I found the mailings from Kenyon to be indicative of the personal touch we have experienced in every aspect of our son’s and our contact with the college. As we were told (and is frequently mentioned in this forum) expressing an interest in this particular college is strongly encouraged. Why shouldn’t that sentiment be reciprocal??

All I know is that it was great for our son to get something in the mail from Kenyon on days when he was cramming for an exam or plugging away to make the ED deadline - kind of reminded him what all that hard work is all about.

We loved the personal letter from dean of admissions when our d was admitted, referencing her application. Our other d didn’t get anything like that from her LAC a few years ago when she was accepted.

My son got his first piece of communication from Kenyon and it was from a professor - but it was not a form letter and it was from a department he had indicated as a possible major. It made him feel wonderful. They are the only school out of the many he has applied to do anything like that.

DoinSchool, I haven’t found any of the mail from Kenyon to be obnoxious at all. The letters from faculty were interesting and informative. Some of the postcards (“American Gothic” in Kenyon garb) showed that someone in the admissions office has a sense of humor.

Do you hate Christmas and puppies, too?

I always got really excited when I saw the Kenyon seal, even though I knew it was probably something not relevant to me.

I apologize on behalf of the college for making an effort for doing you an unnecessary courtesy.

Are these letters mailed or emailed? I’m international and I never got any kind of mailings from Kenyon…

I think they are speaking of mostly pre-printed mailed postcards. They are larger than regular postcards (5x7) and are really “advertisements” for the school. My son did received a letter from a professor in the department he had stated interest in.

Colgate University actually sends out tons of stuff like that - sometimes twice a week.

if you ever visit, the admissions office is the inner sanctum of all those mailings…i saw all those postcards lining the walls and all the ones i later received. i personally loved it, they really had they nicest literature out of any school of my interest!

living overseas, i haven’t received any mailings from Kenyon.
you should be thankful
