Hello! I am attending Kenyon next school year as an incoming Freshman and had some questions, for anyone who can comment on them!
What’s the food like? When I visited, it seemed really great, with a lot of options. To note, I am a pretty picky eater who tends to eat the same things regularly. Will I be able to find something that I like?
Does anyone know of any “group chats” for the class of 2026? The other colleges I had gotten into had some form of communication like a facebook group or group chat for my class year, yet I haven’t seen anything in regards to Kenyon.
Wifi situation? This was something I hadn’t even considered until I saw someone mention it isn’t greet. Is this true? I have a lot of friends I communicate with online, so this concerned me a little.
Any dorm tips? Obviously as a freshman the experience of starting college means I am new to everything, and as someone who values making my living space comfortable, I’d love to hear any tips or tricks to make my (future) dorm room a space that brings me comfort!
What is the art “scene” like? While I am going in unmajored, I have a particular passion for art and am curious about what the classes
Last but not least, what are the unique clubs, activities, and groups at Kenyon? Aside from the typical, like sports, theatre, etc. If it’s relevant, my interests are gaming, art (traditional, digital, sculpture, you name it!), animals, Harry Potter, and I am LGBTQ+!
@XBaer, if nobody responds here you can call the Admissions Office and ask if they can connect you with a current student. At my son’s college, he was a “Husky Ambassador” who spoke to incoming freshmen.
Congratulations! Our daughter is in her first year at Kenyon and absolutely loves it. I don’t have answers for all of your questions but agree with @Mom270 that the Admissions office would be happy to connect you with a current student! Here’s what I do know…
What’s the food like?
Generally the food is very good with plenty of options. I have heard of complaints this year because of food and staffing shortages that are prevalent across the country. I think this affects athletes (who tend to eat later) more than other students, but there are supply chain issues that need to be addressed. The fact that there aren’t many other restaurant options right in town complicates things. That being said, my daughter hasn’t had a problem finding good food and plenty of choices. She does keep some snacks and breakfast items in her room, mostly because she rarely feels like going to breakfast before class!
Does anyone know of any “group chats” for the class of 2026?
Last year there was an Instagram page for newly admitted students to introduce themselves and get to know each other. There was also, I think, a GroupMe or other group chat type of thing? I’d start by searching Instagram for Kenyon 2026.
Wifi situation?
I’ve heard some dorms have better wifi than others, but generally the wifi is good across campus.
Any dorm tips?
Which dorm is “best” really depends on what you’re looking for (larger rooms, more social, etc.). As I recall, this is something that was discussed in the GroupMe last year, but you can also ask a current student.
What is the art “scene” like?
There is no shortage of opportunities to participate in artistic endeavors. It really depends on what you’re looking for. Maybe contact the art department, or ask admissions to connect with an art student? I know several students work at the Gund Gallery, which is stunning.
Last but not least, what are the unique clubs, activities, and groups at Kenyon?
There is no shortage of interesting things to do at Kenyon! There’s a full list on their website, and when you start chatting with current and other newly minted Kenyon students you’ll learn even more.
Kenyon is a truly special place, and like any college experience, you will get out of it what you put in. With all of your interests, you are poised for a wonderful experience. Enjoy!
This is very helpful! I had checked Instagram online to see if they had any groups but didn’t see any. Then again, I don’t have Instagram on my phone so I may have missed something. I also found the clubs page on Kenyon’s website, so thanks for your direction! The Fiber Arts club seems super interesting, I’ve always wanted to try crocheting. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!
Also, thank you for your suggestion (and @Mom270 ), I will probably have a go at getting a connection through Admissions!
