Has anyone received an invitation to the February weekend competition for the top merit scholarships at Kenyon?

Was wondering the same thing. My D just got a postcard today saying her app is complete (everything else was submitted by 12/15, but I think because the mid-year report arrived they now consider it “complete”). No other communications received…

The website reads that information was supposed to go out the first week of February, but I think the office might have possibly misjudged how long it would take to reach decisions. I emailed them around Dec 19 to ask if I would be considered for the scholarships when my CommonApp said it was officially submitted Dec 18 instead of Dec 17 (which was the deadline this year due to Dec 15 falling on Saturday). I didn’t get a response until January (yes, I am being considered), and the admissions officer I spoke to mentioned that they received a huge volume of applications mid-December for the merit scholarships.

I think it’s just a waiting game right now. Unless, of course, someone did get notification and hasn’t seen this thread…

Has anyone tried calling the admissions office?
Approximately how many people are chosen for these scholarships?
GAHHHHH. Kenyon is my top choice D:

I assume they have sent out the invitations already, if they are still planning to conduct the “competition” next Saturday. I think there are only 5 full-tuition scholarships and 5 half-tuition scholarships, so there are probably only a handful of invitations. They have many other types of merit awards, though, which do not involve an on-campus competition.

Yes, I started assuming that as well over the past few days. If you haven’t heard, you are not invited… Although the pool of invitees should be bigger than just the 10 scholarships. You figure they would want to interview twice that, and then assume some students offered the scholarship may not choose to attend Kenyon. So I am guessing they probably invited at least 30 student to interview. That would be in line with what Harvey Mudd does, for example, for their largest/interview required scholarship.

Agreed; I was thinking 20 or so invitees, but I didn’t want to specify a number since I really have no idea! Thirty is probably a good guess.

Has anyone received any sort of merit scholarship yet? My son was accepted for ED1, but hasn’t received any notice of receiving a scholarship for being a Natl Hispanic Schcolar. My understanding is that it is an automatically rewarded merit scholarship.

Does the school wait until RD to figure out where the merit scholarships fall and announce them? Except, of course, the full and half tuition scholarships originally in question.

My S is a NMF, and is currently a freshman at Kenyon, his letter explaining his NMF scholarship came with his letter of acceptance, RD. My understanding is that the cap is 2000a year for NMF, and some get 1000 a year. But I also sent an email asking about it early on, and did get that response. Kenyon is a great school, congrats!
