So I’m picking between all three of these schools and I’m struggling to pick as they all seem to be super similar.
Anyone have an input on which one I should choose? I’m planning on majoring in econ by the way, with other interests being music production and art.
Just visited all three last week. Really didn’t think that they were that similar. Denison had a much different feel to me and my DS. What are you looking for? Denison had a much more mainstream/conservative/professional feel to me.
While they are all Ohio LACs, there are noticeable differences.
Oberlin has no greek life, has food coops, a wonderful art museum, and the Conservatory which creates a music rich environment. Kenyon and Denison have roughly the same proportion greek life participation among students (about 22-25% male and higher for females) and greek life is non-residential, so students don’t live “in” the houses, they are only used for meetings. Kenyon is truly remote, located in a small village – some people love that, others don’t – only you can say what works for you. Denison is in a larger village and is also 25 minutes from Columbus where students can go for entertainment, internships etc. Oberlin has strong sciences with big focus on sustainability. Kenyon is known for the Kenyon Review and its theater program. Denison is strong in fine arts and music and has strong career exploration focus. Oberlin and Kenyon have had some fairly public controversies about political correctness. Oberlin and Denison are both economically more diverse than Kenyon (see NY Times article from Jan 2017). Kenyon and Denison have amazing athletic facilities and field a number of serious, national championship kind of teams. Oberlin’s athletic facilities have been renovated but not comparable to Kenyon and Denison.
While the same student could be quite happy at all three schools, they may find one of them more appealing for various reasons.
