Hey, internet, Im just some random pre-frosh whos narrowed down his choices for next year to Macalester and Kenyon. I totally love both these schools (different as they may be) and am going back to visit later this week. While I hope a second look will inspire me to move one way or the other I figured Id float a thread out there to see what suggestions people have for me. Ive read a lot of info claiming to know what these schools are really like but I think this forum might be the best place to gather information. As for my own interests I hope to study IR or IS next year and perhaps minor or double major in Environmental Studies.
This thread is really open to anything you have to say about either school. What is the social scene like? The party scene? How rigorous are the academics? Which programs are over the top excellent? Which programs arent?...
Any and all comments are appreciated!

I feel somewhat qualified to answer this question! Note: I’m not currently a student, but just like yourself a senior in high school who will be attending Kenyon this fall.

I knew I wanted to apply ED to a school, but I was stuck between two schools: Macalester and Kenyon. Dun Dun Dun. I ended up visiting Kenyon first, falling in love, and thinking that was where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. I literally talked about how badly I wanted to attend Kenyon for the next two weeks… Just because my parents made me visit more schools, I decided Macalester was similar enough to Kenyon (minus the locale) to take a visit… Well, after my visit, to my own complete shock, I LOVED Macalester–even more than Kenyon. I decided I would apply to Macalester ED. Basically, I loved the urban feel, along with the politically engaged students…

After I fell out of the post-visit highs which both schools induced, I literally made every comparison between the two schools–academics, student body, location, price, weather–and found no huge differences… I ended up going through Ohio one more time–for an unrelated reason–and decided to stop at Kenyon once more. This is where I made my FINAL FINAL decision. I would apply ED to Kenyon… Basically the one thing Kenyon had over Macalester was community… The interactions between students and teachers at Kenyon was unbelievable.

okay, sorry if that doesn’t answer your question or make any sense, I just typed that up uber fast!
