Hi everyone! So I didn't know which forum I should put this in since this isn't really about college...I guess pre-college? Anyway, I recently found out that I've been accepted into Kenyon Young Writers Camp and I'm so excited!!! Anyone else accepted?

Also, I'm still waiting on Iowa Young Writers' Studio. Can anyone tell me which one is more selective? And the differences between the two?

Hey! Sorry for my delayed response, but I’ll just copy & paste what I wrote previously for my guidance counselor here:

The Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop was, to put it quite simply, the best two weeks of my life. It is a highly competitive summer writing program in what we Young Writers allude to as ‘the middle of nowhere’, Ohio. The few days before attending the camp, I was afraid that I would be the ‘worst one’ there, amongst future Hemingways and Fitzgeralds- yet when I got there, I was only partially correct. I was enveloped into a community of vibrant and genius writers, whom I’ve learned so much from. There, I was not daunted by the multi-talented people around me, but instead appreciated the words they shared with me and was honored to have the chance to be in company of some of the best writers that I have ever seen in my age group.

There is not much information about the KRYWW on the website prior to acceptance- only after acceptance will you learn about the program in detail. The program may sound daunting with five hours of writing from Mondays to Fridays- even as a lover of the craft, I myself was a little unsure of the seemingly lengthy workshop hours- but future Young Writers can rest assured that the time, quite literally, flies by.

There are endearing Kenyon traditions, and each Young Writer is required to present a work that they have produced at camp at the last week, in front of the whole KRYWW family- including instructors and sometimes the staff of the Kenyon Review, a literary magazine. The program allows ample time for relaxing, and requires a lot of responsibility as there IS homework and assignments to complete outside of class.

If I could attend the Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop again, I would in a heartbeat. It was easily the best two weeks of my life, living on a gorgeous college campus in the extremely safe neighborhood of Gambier, and being surrounded with people with ineffable talent, their words mesmerizing.

Not to mention, the milk was by far the best tasting milk I’ve ever had in my whole entire life :3

Does anyone know how many people usually get chosen off the waitlist? I just got wait-listed for this summer’s session 2, and I’m wondering whether or not I should get my hopes up.

Hannahbanana214, I’m really concerned because my letter didn’t wait list me for a particular session- it just says I’m on the wait list. Does your letter actually say you are wait listed for Session 2?
