I want to go to Kenyon college as a second choice to Princeton University. The website is hilarious and the campus is beautiful. Josh Radnor, star of my favorite show, graduated from Kenyon. My favorite author, John Green, also graduated from Kenyon. Anyone have person experiences they'd like to share?

Kenyon is a great school. I know several alums and they all speak highly of it. Your reasons for wanting to go, however, don’t seem particularly substantive. I’d suggest more research.

@marvin100 haha you’re right. I’m actually still a sophomore in high school and college isn’t a big undertaking quite yet. Right now I’m just gathering opinions.

OP, check out this book for an inside look at Kenyon:

It’s a very interesting read (although BADLY edited, which is ironic, since the author teaches college writing!).

No doubt, since you’re a fan, you’ve heard about Liberal Arts. The movie was filmed at Kenyon:

My daughter is a freshman at Kenyon; she is doing very well and loves it. She applied to eight schools, and honestly wasn’t sure which one was her favorite so she did her research and, over the course of four months, decided Kenyon was the place for her. I am proud that she took the initiative and did her own research, made inquiries on her own, learned from her alumni interview, etc. She chose Kenyon because she thought the students there were very smart and very interesting and unique. She also loved the fact that Kenyon was strong academically yet relatively unpretentious. I would urge you to do your own research and keep an open mind. Find the school that is best for you. And definitely visit! Kenyon is definitely not for everyone, but for many who attend, no other school will do.

I graduated from Kenyon back in '83. It’s the quintessential liberal arts experience, a complete immersion in your studies, but in the best kind of way. It’s funny to hear people wondering whether they’ll be bored there or how far it is to Columbus. Kenyon’s infinitely more interesting than Columbus! It’s probably the most stimulating environment you’ll ever live in.

But mostly it’s about the friendships and relationships - with your teachers also. It’s very intimate. Beautiful campus, of course, but you’ll be spending a lot more time in your head. The academic standards are very high and you will be tested. You will know how to write by the time you leave, no matter what your discipline.

You aren’t taught at Kenyon by TAs - you’re taught by full professors who love their subject and want to share it with you. They aren’t cynical and burned out; they’ve got the best job in the world.

I’m still in close touch with my friends from Kenyon - most would describe it as the happiest time of their life. Not necessarily the best but the happiest. It’s a profoundly changing experience to go there. If that’s what you want out of college and can welcome it then go there.

Good choice!
