I'm a high school senior, and I'm looking for a strong theatre program at more general (but top notch) LAC. I really like Kenyon, but I don't know a lot specifically about it's drama program. If anyone has/ knows someone who has experience with the school's drama department I would love to hear from them. Feel free to message me privately as well. :)

Welcome bluestar!! I am sure Times3 will chime in here, as she has a D who went to Kenyon majoring in Drama. But until then I will tell you my DS’s story. He actually started this process in Sept. all in for a BFA in theater. Tons of theater experience, both in HS and professional. Had a few National awards and some prestigious summer programs under his belt, including a program in Canada and also doing a play at The Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, UK. At his summer program at Northwestern there was a guy from Kenyon, a Junior in Drama, who was interning as an assistant. My S got to talking to him about the theater program at Kenyon. He said it has been an incredible experience for him and encouraged my S to take a look at it. So in October we flew out to Kenyon from CA, and that was the end of that. My S fell hopelessly in love with it, and decided then and there he wanted to do a BA in theater at Kenyon. He spent the entire day and night on campus, and just really clicked with the beautiful campus, and friendly, interesting, unpretentious students. He felt he could go anywhere and do anything working with the staff and students in the Drama dept. He loved that K puts on 25 PRODUCTIONS a year!!! Unheard of in a school this small.

Long story short, he applied ED and just found out he was accepted… SOO happy and excited to be spending the next 4 years at Kenyon!!

Congratulations 5boys! Great news. A great school. Hoping I’m not hijacking the thread, but did you see the film - Liberal Arts [Liberal Arts - Official Trailer [HD] - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

If so, what did you think? I liked it.

Bluestar, my daughter earned a BA in theater from Kenyon a few years ago and had many friends in the program, including quite a few who graduated after she did. It’s expanded a lot since she was there but does not seem to have changed substantially. It’s a rigorous program with good options and great faculty, and student-generated theater productions are vibrant and abundant. There’s also a lot of opportunity for musicians (non-majors and majors alike) on campus, and of course the writing program is first rate. Many of her friends are working in theater in some capacity–acting, producing, directing, doing grad school, etc., but my daughter ended up being interested in working with kids and just completed her master’s in counseling. Her Kenyon education prepared her exceptionally well for that path. Please feel free to PM me with specific questions–I love the school, and my daughter is home for a few days right now so I can pass along any questions to her too!

@arwarw… that is so funny… I actually ordered the DVD for my S for xmas… along with the obligatory K sweatshirt. We just watched the movie today… we both loved it. I felt, after watching it, that my S could not be in a more perfect place for the next 4 years:))
