Key Club

Does Key Club count as volunteer hours and community service? I'm planning to cut out my volunteer work at children's specialized hospital (not a very big committment, only about 60 hours a year) so I can focus more on Key Club as an officer. Would that be a good idea?

I know colleges look for volunteer hours OUTSIDE of school, but would Key Club be good enough even though it's a school activity?

Thanks!!

Are you kidding me, Key Club was one of my MAIN activities. I was an officer and did a lot of leadership stuff through KC ( organizing, planning), but that does not mean that you should stop participating. If you can do both, volunteer outside of school on your own and through KC. If possible collaborate to get more Keyclubbers involved with this hospital. The actual volunteering is the most important part, not the position.

Never stop doing something that you enjoy just for a position that will look good on paper. The experiences I had volunteering really changed my life, and communicating the significance of those experiences to admissions officers is what brought me success. And btw 60 hrs is not that small of a commitment.

Good Luck

Hello fellow Key Clubber!:D

I second what Collegeboard has said. :P

Key club is known internationally as a great organization. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if some of the admission officers looking at your application have participated in Key club or have some K family affiliation. Being in Key Club and volunteering looks great! I love being in Key club I’ve never met such like minded people who all have great aspirations in life. :)

Ooh… Key Club.

Walked out in my first meeting in Freshman year. Never went back.

I’m sure it counts as volunteering (or else all the kids in Key Club committed “fraud” in their applications)

Everyone and their mother is in Key Club (except me :D).

I <3 CSH and Key Club :)
