I am getting ready to take the SAT in the beginning of October. I started taking Practice tests. I have heard that Khan Academy is not the best practice site. I have read where College Board is the best practice site. I looked up the College Board Practice test. The college Board Practice SAT Test is the same exact test as the one I took on Khan Academy. My question is how accurate is the College Board test on Khan Academy since it is the exact same tests on both sites. If I take the College Board test on Khan Academy, will it be accurate? Like will the Score on the College Board Practice Test on Khan Academy be close to the Real New SAT? I am just wondering if the Colllege Board Practice SAT featured on Khan Academy will be close to my SAT score?
From what I’ve read, neither are you best bet. The Khan Academy experience isn’t as "tailored as they’d like you to believe. One should also note that they are partners with the College Board, which means they don’t have sat tips. They only have information and how to properly solve everything the long and drawn out way. Review books like Princeton Review and Dr. Chungs are more based on showing one how to do things correctly and quickly, with little hacks. Also, do you think it is in the College Boards best interest for you to do as well as you expect, no. Why? They want your money. If you take their practice test, and are expecting a 1500, when your score comes back and it’s a 1200, you’ll give them more of your money. I would find ways to study that don’t involve the College Board.
That said, I’ve improved from a 1310 practice test to a 1500 on the real thing with nothing but Khan Academy’s practice tests and class time.
My D has also made great improvements on her test scores using Khan Academy. Not just SAT and PSAT, but she also uses it to study for ACT and AP tests. As stated above, though, it teaches content, not test-taking tricks.
Khan Academy 100% worked for me. It was the only thing I used, and got a 1570.
@ski_racer what were you scoring initially if you don’t mind me asking?
@sarz007 I’m not sure. Due to personal reasons, I never took a practice test. I did get a 1470 on the PSAT, and I did take the practice test for that.
Khan Academy test is really close to the real one. But don’t forget about the stress factor and the pressure you’ll be under on the actual SAT test. I think it’s the main reason people underperform compared to the practice tests at home
