Ok, so I wasn't exactly kicked out. Rather, they denied my re-admission due to bad grades. This has happened 3 times now. I'm 27 and considering going elsewhere since this doesn't seem to be working out for me. I am considering going somewhere down in southern California but don't know where. San Diego State seems like a decent option. I did get into UCSD back in 2001, but I doubt my acceptance back then counts now. Anyhow, my main question is what do I do now? Counting my non-registered classes, I have around a 1.8. If they aren't counted, then I have a 2.3 or so. I was a couple classes from graduating, but since this is the third time my readmit was denied, I figure its time to try elsewhere. What would I need to do to transfer and what are my options? I'm sorta scared to be making a huge change like this, but I'm not really leaving much behind except a bunch of bad memories (part of the reason for not doing my best).

You're so close...too bad about your situation.

You need to get your bearings straight and focus!
I don't know if a CSU will admit a student with so many units, esp. with a low GPA. But you're kinda stuck. You may have to look at the less popular CSUs (SDSU has too many students and may not listen to your case). You should write a letter with your application begging and pleading that you've learned your lesson and you're ready to complete your degree.

Are you nearly complete with a major? Or do you just have a bunch of units in random, unrelated classes? Look at the course catalog of the college that you're considering and see how long it will take to complete the degree.

Good luck!

Well, UCD wants me to wait till next summer to do my classes, but this has happened several times now, so I'm just greatly discouraged. I've also reached my unit cap, so I don't think they will let me try anymore. My main question is: Can I transfer without taking all my units with me? I'm fine with retaking classes if it means being able to graduate with a decent GPA. I really don't want to have to start over as a freshman at the age of 27.

I think someone should put in "Ask the Dean" about college dismissals and expulsions. It would be really helpful, for both academic and disciplinary incidents. I would try, but I don't have access writing threads for "Ask the Dean."

I wish I even knew what my options are at this point. Would any school even take me?

Someone, somewhere will take you.

You need to choose one specific university (SDSU would work), and make an appointment with the transfer admissions office. Take all of your transcripts in with you. Take evidence of what you have been doing with your life when you haven't been in school. Take a formal plan of what you would like to study at their university, and be prepared to explain how you can successfully meet your goals if you are admitted to that university.

Then ask the counselor just exactly what you have to do to be admissible. Do you need to take coursework at a community college for a semester or two and pull down all As? Do you need to enroll at that university as an "undeclared" or "special" or "provisional" student for a semester or two until you prove yourself?

Get advice from this officer, and act on it. Maybe you will be admitted to that university, maybe you won't, but at least you will have solid information on the steps that you need to take in order to be admitted somewhere.

Good Luck!

"Going somewhere down in Southern California" will not solve the problem. The problem is you, not the location of the school you go to. Your best shot is to go to a local community college and to improve your grades. After you do so, you should go back to UCD, present your case, and ask for re-admission.
