I was kicked out of UCR (riverside) about 3 years ago because my gpa was 1.46 and I take full responsibility since I was a young and immature at the time. Right afterwards I joined the military and after doing my time I went straight to a community college. At cc I’ve raised my gpa to 3.2 but I was just told that I can’t transfer to a different uc due to that since I was a student at UCR and was not in good academic standing back then. Do I have still have a chance with the other ucs or am I hopeless in transferring. Please and thank you
Who told you that? Have you contacted UCR or any other UCs? What about Cal States? Surely you can be given a second chance. Talk to every admissions office you can including your community college. BTW, some community colleges in California are beginning to grant 4 year degrees. http://www.sdmesa.edu/academics/bachelors-degree/
I don’t know if there are others, but maybe look into that.
Thank you for your service, by the way. I hope it works out for you.
I also think you are mistaken. As a transfer student from the CC, you must be in good standing to reapply to UCR. And you are.
Academic dismissal is not permanent. You see postings on CC all the time from students requesting help appealing dismissal or getting reinstatement. If you need to be reinstated by UCR to be eligible to enroll in the UC system, just find out the procedure and start working on it. It’s another hoop to jump through, but you can do it. Your CC record clearly shows that you are now ready to be a responsible student.
If you’re interested, you should check if it is possible to re-enter UCR. In some cases, academic disqualifications come with the stipulation that the student go to a community college and show a record of consistent good performance. You might be able to request academic reconsideration without having to reapply, but these policies probably vary among different UCs and you need to get the right information from the academic counselors at UCR.
UCR readmission policies, including for students who were academically dismissed:

Thank you everyone for such great responses! I’ll definitely look into seeing a UCR counselor on what I could do
