Kicked out of university

Hello!

Im currently finishing off my first year at a canadian university. The uni is pretty well known and ranks high in the country. However, due to some prior mistakes in my first semester and my foolish decisions I have been withdrawn from this institution. I have cried, been depressed and all that and have learned my lesson well. I am currently taking some courses this semester to bring up my grades. However, I am soo confused, I really want to transfer to an american school, I dont know how that can be done with my current situation. I know top schools wont even look at me (i.e. University of Virginia, Northeastern etc..) and I don't even want to question the Ivy leagues. Someone please give me some advice on what can be done with my current situation, I dont want to waste anymore time and I want to get back into a degree program!

PS. do you think i should try and transfer out of this university and apply to another university, get good grades and then apply to a good american college like the ones i mentioned above?

The answer really lies in what you got kicked out for. I don’t think anyone can say anything helpful if you don’t tell us why you were withdrawn.

well the reason I dot kicked out was for poor grades. IT was my first semester of the very first year, and I got involved in extracurriculars ( like being the exec in this club and that club etc.) and I did not prioritize my time properly.

It is extremely unusual for students in the US to be dismissed for grades after only one semester. Any place that you apply to in the future will want clear evidence that you are indeed prepared to do university-level work. Your best bet is to continue taking classes wherever it is that you are at present, and to bring your grades up. Then apply for a transfer when you have at least one year of credits with solid grades to show the places you are applying to.

Even in Canada, it is not common to be kicked out for grades after only one semester. Unless the GPA was in the vicinity of 0.25.

Well, it doesn’t sound like he can continue taking classes where he is because he’s been dismissed.

Your only choices are…

1) come home and go to a local CC, do well, and then transfer (BTW…some elites are hard to transfer into, but other good schools are not.)

2) apply to a few mid-tier schools and see if they’ll accept you. Some probably will. Do well, and then transfer up when you can.

What is your financial situation? If your parents won’t pay (at least until you demonstrate academic success), then you’ll have to go to a local CC and get good grades.

Thanks guys. Yeah I know it is unusual that they do this. But that is the hard truth, they have withdrawn me. I really need to know some good schools that will accept me into the future (lets say I take a couple of courses, bring up my mark, or even apply to another university in canada, obtain a good mark) and then hopefully when i apply to some good colleges in the states, will they accept me or will they differ me because they see this failure in my transcript.

Also, will this effect on my chances of getting into a good graduate program in the future?
Lastly, do good american colleges like UCLA, USC, Northeastern etc… care about doing a BCOmm in a canadian college and then transferring into their school, or do they want you to take the toughest courses and take them at the top most school in your country/region to have better chances of transferring in the future to their schools.

I ask this because right now im in a rigrious accounting program, at a good school. I know if I did well in this program and applied to a good school in the US with my marks and this university’s reputation i would have gotten in no problem. However, that is not the case. So if I were to transfer into a regular BComm at a lower university, hopefully get good grades what are the chances of me transferring into a good American college like the ones mentioned above?
