Kid Too Burned Out to Apply for $$

I really am burned out. I just don't want to do it, I want to enjoy my second semester seniorhood!

As for worrying about teachers, don't. Teachers just reuse their old letters and maybe change a sentence like "I enthusiastically recommend {NAME} for the {SCHOLARSHIP/COLLEGE}

What scholarships are people applying for?

If everyone is burned out now, can you imagine what college is going to be like?

indieice, I think I can understand what you mean, but I am sure that what has made my S so sick of the application process is the form-filling-out, the focus on himself and having to delineate his "achievements," the stress of having waited to Christmas break to do a lot of it. He loves the whole life of the mind, so college will be great I am sure. Sure, there will be times of stress, but they will have a different focus.

Thanks indieice. Makes me feel better ;)

Between AP Classes, Play Practices, Tennis Practice, Music performances, and everything else over the sun. . . .scholarship applications have completely burnt me out.

A piece of advice to parents:

do not pester your kids constantly to write essays and fill out applications.

My mother expected me to spend every waking moment doing applications, including about 30-40 essays. The quality of work is not up to par, and I would be far better off if I just concentrated on a few and put effort into that.

Not to mention, this is a terrible way to spend your Sr. Year, and made my social life pretty much non-existant for a couple months. I would have had more fun getting a part-time job.

Moral of the story: Focus on a few applications. . . . .and despite popular belief your kids will get work done if you just leave them to it, without constant reminder.

St .. I agree that my son gets things done. He waits til the last minute, however, and that makes me tense.

If I didn't keep my focus on trying to make sure the person I love most in the world gets a good start in life, I'd have nothing to keep me from sitting in the corner crying because I couldn't stop remembering that he'll be leaving me soon.

My younger S is a junior, and I am sure that I will share your feelings when he's a senior. When he had his last birthday, I burst into tears because I could so vividly remember him as a toddler. It seems that I blinked and he grew up in that microsecond.

i hear ya.. i would go search for merit and only fill out forms where i would have to write abs nothing original because im SO tired from applying to schools.
