Kid with bad GPA and good SATs wants good education

High School GPA: 2.4
SAT:
Critical Reading: 690
Math: 670
Writing: 700
Total: 2060

A good number of EC's, mostly having to do with my field of choice, screenwriting, but I actually want to study Journalism in college. I'm not really that worried about the school having a great program in either of these, though. I'm very open to anything.

I have pretty good letters and very good essays.

I really just want to go to a large university and have a great college experience while learning as much as I can about things that I'm interested in. I'm not so worried about careers yet.

In my freshman year, my GPA was about a 2.9. In my sophomore year, it was about a 3.5. My junior year was horrible and really killed my GPA.

Here are the schools that I'm applying to:
Indiana Bloomington
UMASS, Amherst
SUNY Buffalo
SUNY Albany
UCONN
University of Rhode Island
Towson University

Do you think I will be admitted to any of these schools?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I don't know much of anything about college admissions, but I will tell you my personal experience, as I am also majoring in Journalism.

I worried a lot about getting into college because my GPA is a mediocre 2.9. I did have to give up on a lot of more competitive schools I was interested in. I don't know anything about the colleges you listed, so I'm not sure about your chances. However, the University of Missouri-Columbia is recognized as one of the best undergraduate J-Schools, if not the best, in the United States. Just do a search on it on these boards and you'll see that's true. If you have a 24 or above on the ACT (I don't know what the SAT equivalent is but I'm sure you make the cut), you are pretty much admitted to the university automatically. That's where I'm going next fall and I am very happy with my desicion.

Mizzou is a large university (about 30,000) in a wonderful suburban college town. Its in the "Big 12" so there's a lot of school spirit. Everyone I have spoken to who has gone there says it was a great college experience. While it isn't an extremely prestigious university, its a solid school, and if you are interested in Journalism, you should really check it out as a safety if nothing else.

That definitely seems like the type of college I would like to be at, but distance is definitely a factor.

I'm from the Northeast (Long Island, New York to be exact) and I don't think my parents would allow me to go so far away. Indiana is really the farthest school that I considered and that one seems a lot closer because it's supposedly filled with people from Long Island. I'll definitely have a look at Missouri, though, just because you make it sound really great.

Depends what state you're in.
