Kids from same school applying

How would my chances of being accepted to Penn be affected, if it is affected at all, if there are several other applicants applying from the same school.

We had 1 acceptance early: recruited athlete
then I know there is another URM applying here too during RD
and does it matter if they are applying to the same undergraduate college?

i don't think your school matters at all. half of the kids who applied this year (ED) from my school got in. 7 total. pretty much everyone who deserved to get in got in.

AFAIK, only me and a Val/Sal candidate applyin' :(

crystalpinapple, do u live in pennsylvania?

They compare u to ppl from ur region, school alot actually...but if u have enough u should get in.....o.O there might be some competition between person who is applying to the same school....but if u have better stats/ECs, essays then him/her then u would get in

i have the same problem,
i know a couple of people applying to penn ED next year from my school
the valedic and the salu, and another student that has a slight better ranking than i do, and me, and probably some others that i don't know about. i think i want to apply to CAS and probably two other students that are better than me with SAT scores (of now) and better ranking. do i have a chance??

dontstopbelievin,

dontstopbelievin!!!! lol, jokes aside, you certainly have a chance IF you exceed them both in extra curriculars. also, don't forget, upenn is not required to take a certain amount of kids from each school, so for all we know, you all can get in.

haha y0itzr0 thanks.

but doesn't penn like to admit the students sporadically? and not a bunch from one school?

yep, i'm from pennsylvania. i'm from the philly suburbs. does that make a difference or something?

I'm from the Philly suburbs as well, and my school is reputed to be "on good standing" with Penn. I go to a public school ranked in the top 10 in the Philly area, and every year, we get a decent number of admits. I think going to school near Penn has some influence.

^i thought it had more to do with the fact that so many kids at my school are legacies and/or have parents who work there, but i guess going to school near Penn has a positive effect as well. we usually get around 10+ish kids who end up going each year. masterman and CHS in philly get more than that.

but the original question -- i don't think it matters that multiple people are applying from the same school, but your high school relationship with penn might matter a bit (?)

Yep, I agree with that.

just early admission this year, 12/14 kids got in from Ramaz, a school in nyc, and 3/5 got in from my school.

so yeah, it's really not about the school. just the kids.
