A great South Park episode which touches on the subject of cheating and the American way. Thought it was funny with some of the comments in this thread and the things Eric Cartman teaches the inner city school kids.

Imaginative ways to cheat. It’s pretty sad because studying and school, all this you learn is general knowledge for your life. At least those who actually study will be something in life.

“those who say it’s okay to cheat on a test, it’s almost like you’re saying it’s okay to cheat in a relationship. different in some sense, but it’s all still cheating. and cheating can hurt other people. it’ll make them more cautious and they’ll feel less likely to trust anybody else.”

They are entirely separate things. Cheating on a meaningless test doesn’t hurt the person you are cheating off of, while cheating in a relationship will hurt the person you are cheating on. Just because the word cheat is uniform between the two doesn’t make them similar.

I am not here to advocate cheating. It is morally wrong. However, if you wish to cheat on a test, be my guest, just don’t get caught.

I am in strong disagreement with you Bgibbs. When someone cheats of another person, they’re putting in less work and getting a better class rank than they deserve. College admissions takes into account GPA and class rank - both of which can be artificially inflated by cheating. I think it most definitely hurts a non-cheater if a cheater manages to nab their spot at XYZ University because he or she has better stats.
