So, it's my second week of freshman year, and I'm a commuter student. Since I don't dorm, I get lunch/snacks from Kimmel. But today my on-campus friend was eating with me, and said Kimmel is sooo stingy compared to her dorm building (Hayden). She says the food in dorm dining halls is much better, there is more variety, it's cheaper, and Hayden doesn't charge you for extra crap like salad dressing.

Is this true? I think I'll be dining in Hayden from now on. Also, can I use cash for resident dining halls, because I don't have a meal plan?

I assume I'm allowed to walk in and eat their food. I'm not paying extra for Kimmel food that's cheaper and tastes better in other dining halls. In fact, I stole hummus dip pita chips from kimmel today. Take that, NYU. I'm taking my overpriced tuition back one $2.49 pita chips at a time.

Hayden is all you can eat, which is why it’s cheaper. You can always eat in Hayden or any of the other res hall dining halls. You can pay by cash, campus cash, dining dollars, or use a meal swipe. I think it’s aobut $8.50 per meal.

hssenior, chill out. my parents pay a fortune for me to go to this school, shoot me if I took some chips. Just because I said kimmel is stingy doesn’t mean I hate NYU, so keep your catty comments to yourself. Excuse me for not draping myself in a purple NYU banner and jumping up and down waving pompoms outside kimmel declaring they have the best food ever.

No, I get grumpy when a random person starts berating me for lack of school spirit on a thread where I was asking if I could use cash in res dining halls. Sheesh. Btw, how do you even know that I have a GT to another college?

All our parents pay alot for us to attend NYU. Those of us in Dorms even more than the commuters. That doesn’t mean we need to regress to a third grade mentality and start stealing from the dining commons.

Don’t worry molly, I stuff croutons and goldfish into my soup when I’m at Kimmel.

I never got the impression that Kimmel was stingy at all, I think their food is pretty good- overpriced, but pretty good. Really though, most people don’t have meal plans their sophomore year, so it’ll be easier and cheaper for you to eat friends b/c you’ll probably eat off-campus (and by that I mean, outside of NYU dining).

I’m a commuter student too… and you know what, everyone gets grumpy in the morning but we don’t actually take it out on an online forum. Jesus.

You didn’t need to resort to a childish mentality and start chastising someone on an online forum like you’re the NYU campus police or something. I took some chips…honestly, I don’t give a crap. It’s not like I stuffed all the food into a canvas bag and made off with it.

no, I was talking to him as well…sorry it was unclear lol. We are not the grumpy ones in this thread.
anyway I don’t really care anymore, I had my question answered so this threads closed.

molly i didnt know you had a gt to c#rnell. I remember you were telling me how you wish you had a gt to c#rnell. Is it for a college not named C#rnell? Cuz I remember you applied to c#rnell’s CAS and I thought they didnt have the GT option. Anyway, how’s GSP?

And I do agree hssenior. I hate to sound like a d$uche, but it’s not really a question of school spirit, it’s a question of something much more important: morality.

[sarcasm]Screw morality. You check that at the door when you get off the plane at JFK.[/sarcasm]

Last year when I had a meal plan I’d go to Hayden when I wanted to have leftovers (such as on um saturday nights-sunday Hayden’s closed) and Kimmel when I wanted better food.
