Hey guys, Im applying to CAS ED and I was just wondering how you think that admissions will look upon this...
I
I am currently ranked 12/514 students, but in Freshman year I was ranked 128
My GPA from freshman year and earlier (I took a few hs classes when I was in middle school) is right around a 3.2
After Freshman year I have a 3.997 (One B due to an extenuating circumstance)
So now my cum GPA is a 3.75 and my weighted is a 4.7
Do you think that admissions will look highly upon the extremely steep upward trend that I have shown in my grades (I also explained a big reason for my mediocre performance in my essays)
BTW I have 14 AP classes, and almost all of my other classes are honors

ANY FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED, THANK YOU!

Maybe not ‘look highly upon’, but personally, I think admissions will understand your situation and they’ll like that you’ve shown an upward trend. Your GPA after freshman year is great, as are the 14 AP classes.

Best of luck for CAS! :)

Okay…so first of all, “one B due to an extenuating circumstance”? It’s a B. It’s fine. RELAX.
The upward trend will look better than if your GPA was still low, so that’s a good thing.
However, you need to be very careful in your essays…you really don’t want to concentrate on all these different things that were happening that made you do poorly.
You could say something about that in the “additional info” section, but don’t have it be the main focus of your essay.
Instead, for example, you could talk about the situation you were in and how it affected you and shaped you into the person you are today.
But really, I cannot stress enough that you don’t want to talk about why your grades are low in your essay. To the admissions officers, this looks desperate and really tells them nothing about who you are.

Thank you for your response. My essay is in no means about that, but I guess the way I worded that sentence kind of made it seem that way. My essay is just about an issue I had for a while and an experience that helped me to mature. I would say more on here, but i wont for privacy reasons. It is very reflective and just talks about how this issue still existed when I was in 9th grade.

What kind of writing would you suggest for the additional info?

Best is if your college counselor provides the “explanation” for your “low” freshman year grades. It’s quite possible that your counselor will decide that such an “explanation” would do more harm than good.

I agree with the other comments. Write a more interesting, quality essay.
