I went to a state school for 2 years, had a 3.3 GPA from there (49 units). Then I went to a community college after changing my major and so far have a 3.45 from there. (summer+fall semester, so 14 units total) and in spring semester I signed up for 15 units, but had some huge family problems and fell behind in all classes. I didn't think that I was going to get accepted to any UC's, but got accepted to UCSD (with TAG) and UCSC (without). I dropped my physics course (4 units) and then found about UCSD.

I called UCSD and they said that it's ok if you drop a class as long as doesn't affect your 60 units and IGETC. I'm fine with units and IGETC, but I don't have 30 units from a community college (requirement for TAG).

Plus on top of that I got 2 C's and 1 B in my other classes this semester (I'll still have more than a 3.0 overall easily).

Does anybody have any experience with the 30 unit requirement?

Wait you’re asking if by not meeting a requirement you can still get acceptance? Whats the point of requirements then

I got accepted already and I’m going to complete everything on the contract…I dropped the class AFTER they got the application.

Since your TAG will be voided, it all depends on what admissions says. I honestly haven’t seen anyone with your sort of situation but I would suggest asking them directly if you void your TAG, but still complete the requirements for admission like the last person said, will you be safe?

I asked them and my CC counselors. The officer said it’s up to whoever is checking your trascripts…It’s not a huge miss as long as you have IGETC and whatnot, but if somebody wanted me to not get into SD they could rescind me. Counselors said I should be fine, but that it’s still rescindable.

I was more or less wondering if anybody had any experience with something like this.

“It’s up to whoever is checking your transcripts.” If they said this then you may be safe, as transcript evaluators usually by this point are checking (and probably in a robotic, mindless manner) only to see whether your self-reported grades match the grades on your transcripts; I don’t think they’d be counting to see whether an applicant has 30 units to fit the definition of a community college. I could be wrong, though my guess is educated.

To be sure I’d call UCSD again and get the perspective from a different admissions officer than the one you spoke with. UCSD Admissions Officer’s names that come to mind: Kevin, Debbie, Tiffany. Ask for one (or more) of those when you call in.

I talked to one of the admission officers and she told me that I was admitted to TAG with 29 units, so as long as I dont break the contract I’m ok.
