I know I said this thread is kinda unrelated in the title.
You know those days when you’re in a rush to get somewhere and you catch every single red light? Well, thats how today felt. It started out with a physics midterm at 8:30. I thought I did well on it (as I studied for hours in the past week); however when I compared my answers with my fellow classmates, it seems that my answers didnt agree with anyones (although the other people found their answers to correlate with each others). I was a bit bummed out because I studied a long time for this exam as it was important to me. Then I came home because I had a 3 hour gap ebtween my physics class and my next class. I log into my email to see an email from UT austin saying that I have important news waiting in my portal. I log in to see that I got rejected.
3 hours later, I go to my computer science class. It was here that our lovable teacher decided to give us a popquiz. These popquizzes are worth about 3 percent of our grade and I got a 0.8 out of 2. A 94 is an A, and I cant afford to lose points on silly stuff like this.
After computer science, I go to math class where we had a quiz on trig subtitution and partial faction integration. The quiz was an online quiz, so only the final answer counts. I made silly mistakes on EACH problem and I got a 0/5. Again… these quizzes are a significant part of our grade.
Im usually a good student and do great on tests. I have the 5th highest grade in my math class (of a class of 40… knock on wood), but didn’t do too well today. Im also decent in comp sci, but again… didnt do well.
I came home at 6:30 PM (when my math class ends), and went to church as that’s where my family and I stayed until 8. So, this horrible day ended with a night at church.
On top of all that… today was my 18th birthday. Does anyone think this might be a sign of things to come? a sign of adulthood or change or something? I really hope not.
Anyway, I might seem crazy now, but I just feel disappointed in myself for everything that happened today and I feel like sharing my day with someone. Any comfort/comments would be much appreciated.
Hahaha, we each deal with rejection in our own ways I guess. The day that USC sent out scholarship notifications and I got the email that I didn’t get one (basically entirely removing USC from consideration due to cost), I bowled the best game of my life! \m/
I have had my days of stupid mistakes though… I had a stretch a couple weeks ago that I bombed a few assignments that I should have gotten A’s on. I wasn’t happy but I pushed through and it’s looking ok for now.
Anyways, theres a pretty good chance that things won’t stay this way, stuff happens…
But hey, you’re 18 now! You can buy cigarettes and spray-paint! /
Sorry about all that. Crazy that UT would cover a rejection letter with " important news" .
I’m sorry you had such a tough day. Next year you will look back on this and think “No big deal.” Being 18 and 28 and 38 and so on will lead to new opportunities. There will be good days and bad days, but life is a wonderful ride.
@ARandomGeek yeah. i guess my bad fortune just piles on top of each other throughout the day while you balance it out with your luck. and lol, i got that notification that i didnt get a USC scholarship either.
@myyalieboy IKR! i was kinda excited cause i thought that meant i got in or something.
@green678 hope so. things havent gone too well today either, but hopefully thats just temporary/.
I don’t know you, but just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!!
I hope what happens when you get your physics exam back is that your answers were right. If other people’s answers don’t agree with yours, you’re not necessarily wrong! The smartest person in my math class asked the other week if I had gotten 3/4 (or whatever) on a question, when I had gotten 1/4 (or whatever). I ended up being right. Everybody makes mistakes. Might not have been you!
I’m sorry about UT Austin. It stings. And there’s never really a good time to get your hopes crushed like that.
Don’t worry about computer science and math. You had an off day. I had an off week last semester where I did worse than I had hoped on two major exams. You’ll pull out of it.
Good luck with everything. Hope the next few days go really well, to cheer you up.
@3puppies @bodangles thanks.
Happy birthday kiddo
Try to remember that this one day, although as crushing as it was (I’m really sorry about that
), doesn’t define you or your life. I hope everything turns around for ya.
Hey, first off, a super big HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Above all, you’re 18. That’s just ridiculously exciting. Have a dance parrty or something, solo or with a few friends
I really, really feel you on bombing these things. I feel like I’m a pretty decent student, all As and that lame stuff. Yet, I have failed every single quiz I took last week, nearly failed my AP Chem test, and will probably get some more bad grades back. So seriously: I relate. This is a sucky place to be, but now, just use it as motivation. Things can only get better from here. You’ve just got to remember that you’re human, and humans make mistakes. Beating yourself up will only make yourself feel worse. So take some time, feel upset and listen to angsty music and all that jazz, then get up and go study for the next thing.
Deep breath. You’ve got this.
Sometimes I’m in a jam
I’ve gotta make a plan
It might be crazy
I do it anyway
No way to know for sure
I’ll figure out a cure
I’m patchin’ up the holes
But then it overflows
If I’m not doin’ to well
Why be so hard on my self?
[Chorus]
Nobody’s Perfect!
I gotta work it!
Again and again 'til I get it right
Nobody’s Perfect!
You live and you learn it!
And if I mess it up sometimes…
Nobody’s perfect
Sometimes I work a scheme
But then it flips on me
Doesn’t turn out how I planned
get stuck in quick sand
No problem, can be solved
Once I get involved
I try to be delicate
Then crash right into it
My intentions are good
Sometimes just misunderstood
[Chorus]
Nobody’s perfect!
I gotta work it!
I know in time I’ll find a way
Nobody’s perfect!
Sometimes I fix things up
And they fall apart again
Nobody’s perfect
I might mix things up
But I always get it right in the end
[Talking]
Next time you feel like… it’s just one of those days…
when you just can’t seem to win
If things don’t turn out the way you plan,
FIGURE SOMETHING ELSE OUT!
Don’t stay down! Try again! YEAH!
[Singing (x2)]
Everybody makes mistakes…
everybody has those days…
everybody knows what, what I’m talkin’ 'bout…
everybody gets that way
Nobody’s Perfect!
I gotta work it!
Again and again 'til I get it right!
Nobody’s Perfect!
Ya live and ya learn it!
And if I mess it up sometimes…
Nobody’s Perfect!
I gotta work it!
I know in time I’ll find a way
Nobody’s Perfect.
Ya live and ya learn it!
'Cause everybody makes mistakes
Nobody’s Perfect!
Nobody’s Perfect! No no! Nobody’s Perfect!
But in all reality, Hannah Montana’s words do contain implicit wisdom. You’re still awesome either way.
