Kinesiology/Exercise Science Major

I'm a high school senior who has developed a strong passion for running and living a healthy and active lifestyle. I am considering going to grad school to become a Physical Therapist, but I want to make the right choice for undergrad school. I was wondering what undergraduate universities (in California) offer this major and which ones are worth considering and how well the kinesiology program is at those universities. Thanks :)

For California, the top universities that offer Kinesiology would be USC and Cal Poly SLO. Depending upon your STATs you should also look into SDSU/CSU Fullerton/CSU Long Beach and CPP. Some privates beside USC would be Biola, Cal Lutheran and the University of San Francisco. If you use the SuperMatch feature on this website and plug in California as your location and Kinesiology as major, you should get a good list of schools which offer this major.

CSU Northridge has a very good kinesiology program.

In addition, the Integrative Biology department at UCB offers physical education academic courses.

Chapman University in Orange has a bachelors of science program in kinesiology that I hear is quite good: <a href=“Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies | Chapman University”>http://www.chapman.edu/ces/undergraduate/kinesiology.aspx</a></p>

What exactly are my chances of getting into Cal Poly SLO (roughly)? I did some research and SLO definitely has caught my attention. My SAT score is 1790 and I have a 4.6 weighted GPA (3.97 unweighted). I am involved in several extra curricular activities such as cross country and track, NHS (which I am the vice president of), and I was in the symphonic band as well as the marching band.

Obviously your GPA and test scores would normally indicate a good chance for admission, however, it’s really difficult for anyone to determine your chance for admission to SLO. Cal Poly SLO uses an algorithm (point system) for admission http://www.act.org/epc/ppt/EPC%202013%20F1.2%20Maraviglia%20Amos.pdf</a> . You can read a detailed discussion on admission points (appropriately titled “The Keys to the Kingdom") that was on the SLO forum - <a href=“The Keys to the Kingdom - Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1625482-the-keys-to-the-kingdom-p1.html</a> .

Here is a short article in SLO’s Mustang news on the admission process. A comment worth noting “…you can do everything right and still not get offered” (admission).
It is likely that each major at CPSLO has its own point threshold for admission, although CPSLO only hints at that with divisional admission statistics, not by each major like SJSU does.
