I’m going to apply to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this year, but I was hoping someone could tell me what my chances are of getting in with a major in Kinesiology.

*AP Exam Scores: Psychology-5
*Taking 3 other AP’s this year along with a Junior College dual enrollment course.

Extra Curriculars:
*Varsity Swimming-3 years
*Chamber Choir-2 years
*Community Service: 59 hours

Class Rank: 46 out of 836
Top 10%

I’m going to apply for the early decision. Does anyone know if that effects my odds of getting accepted?I’m also curious about the stats of people who were accepted/denied for the upcoming school year.

Apply early! It might help you… I know people that turned down UC Berkeley for Cal Poly’s Kinesiology Dept. Its really good, hands on, and gives you a ton of experience.

Its going to be extremely difficult to get into Cal Poly premier majors this year, so good luck.

Hey there, Im a senior kinesiology major at Cal Poly right now. Its really tough to get in right now, cal poly only lets people in the fall, and I know that in the kinesiology department they only accepted 50 new freshman for this 2009 academic year, all this is because of the california budget, we have received 2 tuition increases in 5 months, and cal poly is in debt so they have to limit how many people they accept. I know that there are about 30,000 applications a year, and the acceptance rate is about 25-30% making cal poly highly selective. You seem to have a good transcript goin for you, it’s better than mine was when I was applying and I got in, so I think your chances are better than most that apply. Plus, our kinesiology department is awesome, great classes and hands on experiences.

Okay thanks for the input. =) Yeah I’ve heard good things about the Kinesiology Department at Cal Poly but I know it’s competitve getting in. Does anyone know anything about Food Science and Nutrition at Cal poly? I’ve been looking at Nutrition as another possible major but i wasn’t sure if it has a good reputation at cal poly.

My daughter got denied, I appealed and she was denied again.

GPA 4.03 (includes freshman year)
SAT 1710 (yours is much better)
AP and honors Classes, Two College Courses.

She did not do early enrollement, but I hear it helps.

She started at Cuesta last week, she got accepted to other schools, but is holding out for Cal Poly Transfer and thinking about a change in major.

hm ok. I don’t know if it’d be better to major in nutrition or kinesiology=/ I’d love to major in either of them but I don’t know which is harder to get into

I know someone who is a freshman at cal poly right now got into kinesiology with a 3.96. I’m sure that your chances are very high. She got admitted through early decision.

^^ My daughter is a freshman in Kinesiology, as well. I can’t remember all her stats, other than she had a 30 on her ACT and 4.27 UC/Cal Poly GPA. I know she took all the necessary classes that they look for, including Algebra in 8th grade. She applied Regular Decision.
