I'm trying to make my final college decision, and I am interested in learning more about the Kinesiology major at Rice (namely the sports medicine concentration). I would love to hear anything about the profs, classes, etc. I want to make sure it is a challenging enough major with solid classes and good profs. I'm looking to possibly go to med school, and I'm scared that Kinesiology may just be a "blow off" major, especially after I went to one not-so-impressive Kinesiology class at Owl Days. (The class was located in a tiny room in the Rec center, it was not as in-depth as I would hope, the prof was just so-so, and not very many of the students were taking notes or seemed motivated to learn). I know that my experience may have just been a fluke (and I hope it was!), but I wanted to hear more information about this department before making my final decision. Thanks!

Maybe it was an easy A class people take. You’re going to have those no matter what major you choose (unless you triple major). A major is what you make it. My friend is kinesiology pre-med at Rice and gets less sleep than anyone I know. Last week she slept 1 hour out of 3 days because it was the final week of classes. Being any one major doesn’t prohibit you from taking hard classes in other departments. This goes double for the pre-meds here, who all take advanced science courses whether or not they’re science majors.

What do people with this major go on to do after graduating?

Is it largely a premed path, a path to work in health related fields, or ???

You guessed it. It’s both of those.

my interviewer majored in that and she was physical therapist in an elementary school. She worked with kids who had disabilities.
