Kinesiology or Biology

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to apply the USC next year and have been doing research on their majors. I am stuck between kinesiology and biology. I understand I will still have more time to decide, but I want to have a confident decision early so I don't stress out last minute.

So, I want to hopefully go to med school in the future. I have interest in physiology and health, which is basically kinesiology. However, I feel like a general biology major will better prepare me for med school. Also, I have heard how difficult a bio major is at USC. I am unsure of the difficulty level on a kinesiology major, but that shouldn't be too much of a factor because hard work pays off... But, back to topic, which major is probably best?

For medical school you will be advised to major in Human Biology. USC is actually phasing out the Kinesiology major (I am surprised that it would be showing up as an option actually) now that there are separate bio majors.

Snowdog is correct, kinesiology has been phased out and the closest major to that is human biology with the applied physiology track (but look into the other human biology tracks). Honestly, it doesn’t matter which one you pick, both are sufficient for fulfilling pre-health requirements and sufficient prep for entrance exams (and allow for a double major or minor(s)). Also, they take the same intro sequence so you honestly wouldn’t have to decide for up to even 2 years in between the 2 majors. You can honestly, start one (take a couple classes to see how it is) then change your mind and switch to the other one and still graduate on time.

But first things first, need to gain admission before deciding on a major.
