How likely is a candidate to be given an appointment when they are on “HOLD”
Admissions was very optimistic, but they said it could granted AFTER May 1st and with other scholarships needing acknowledgment this is very scary.

Unfortunately, no one outside of admissions at the academy has this answer. If you end up in a real bind, the applicant (not the patent) can call and explain the situation, but decisions are not meted out on a per-call basis.
