Back in 2012, I was at a large all day student recruitment conference at UF, and one of the presenters went on for a bit about how low UF’s tuition is low compared to it’s peers (she used the University of Michigan). Ok, that’s a great selling point for UF.
But then she went on about how UF really needs to raise tuition rates to match schools like UM ($13,000). All I could think about was how she really picked the wrong crowd (parents thinking about sending a student to UF) to make her argument that tuition needed to be doubled…
Anyway, UF’s total cost of attendance (COA) is still a great deal. Not only is tuition (and fees!) low, but so is housing in Gainesville. Other Florida schools (UCF, USF, etc.) actually have a higher COA.
We have been very impressed with their online dual enrollment options.
I don’t think my DS will end up going there (long story) but UF is a gem for our state.
@Gator88NE - While increasing the tuition may make sense for the obvious reasons, the fact that UF is able to keep top talent in-state will pay off in the long run via contributions, etc. The tuition differential between UF in-state and comparable private schools or public out-of-state is so drastic that it has a lot of top students staying in-state.
