Kitchen necessities...

So living in a dorm, do you really have no choice but to eat campus foods? At orientation they talked about buying healthy at some sort of weekly fruit market but where would you wash the fruit? If you have a mini fridge and keep food in tupperware, where do you wash the tupperware? Or even... I have a water canteen, where do I fill it up with water?

haha an entire paragraph bomb of questions

I dunno about the others…but I’m brining a Brita water filter/pitcher contraption thing to use to fill up my water bottle. And a coffee maker or hot plate to boil water for tea and hot chocolate when it gets cold :)

are there baking ovens in the kitchenette? can someone please detail exactly what appliances/amenities ERC kitchenettes include? we’re not provided cookware, right? thanks!

pinkberry,
you wash the fruit in the kitchenette (mini-kitchen) at the end of your suite. I think you can fill up water anywhere around campus; they have lots of faucets specially placed for students to refill canteens instead of buying plastic H2O bottles.

people have recommended H2O filter pitchers to me. it’s much more convenient for someone like me who dislikes bottled water & drinks a lot of water.

this is probably a silly question. but. are there barbecues ANYWHERE?! I think i saw one next to the price center but that was it. and it was like one of those in the ground barbecues you find at parks.

The ERC kitchenette has an oven and a stovetop and a sink, that’s it. They don’t provide any bakeware/utensils.

Basically, it’s a huge hassle to cook when you live in the dorms, so yeah, you’re pretty limited to on campus food. They have healthy options though and it’s not the worst thing in the world. You’ll get used to it.

i thought hotplates werent allowed?
so my mom is having me take a coffee machine? hahaha.

For all of you in Warren, there are no kitchenettes.

^But there will be places with drinking water near our dorm rooms right? Or do people at warren have to stock up on watter bottles or something…

^You mean besides CV? There’s some crappy drinking fountains for when CV closes and Earl’s sells bottled water if you so chose, but they give you a water bottle at the beginning of the year which is good to fill up with water and keep in your dorm to drink.

thanks you guys! I had no idea there was a kitchenette, I didn’t even see it during orientation.

I do drink a LOT of water so maybe I should consider a water filter lol… very tight on space though X_X

Is there a microwave or do we have to bring one? I feel like I want to live off of MSG filled microwavable foods from Mitsuwa.

^If you really want to do that (???why??? hahaha) then you have to bring a microwave. I think there’s a ****ty one in each of the dining halls, but really, bring your own (or coordinate with your roommate to split the cost of one)

Target is selling a microwave for $29 right now!

wow thanks ucsandiego, I have some bad experience with cruddy microwaves. Shall we bring rice cookers also?

I’m TOTALLY bringing a rice cooker to use as my person steamer, And perhaps cook chicken and whatnot in there.

^You’re using a rice cooker as A PERSON STEAMER!!!

Stay awayyyyyyy from meeeeeee

What other meat has every single type of protein that the human body needs? :]

LMAO, looks like college is gonna be fun xD.
