I just recieved a acceptance letter to live in the KLLC and just wanted to know anything about it before making my descion to go into it(very much leaning into going there). Unlike most things at IU, I've heard little about the KLLC from personal experinces. It did seem like a very very nice place when I visted and everyone I met on campus recommended it.

That being said, just wanted to know any real life experinces from KLLC students or even parents. While I'm a very much relaxed kid in most aspects, academics do play a major role in my life. I was definetly looking for a place where academics played a role versus partying 24/7/ However, how is the social life at KLLC? Do you interact with kids from the other Northwest communities? Do to another scholarship I'm in I have to take another course so is the 1 credit course hard or relativly easy?

Though I've only heard great things, anything would be greatly aprreciated. Thank you.

I applied kind of late probaly mid to late March, and I just recieved the letter today. I’m a DA not that that matters much since the break down is about 50/50.

P.S. Sorry everyone for the spelling in the first post, I wrote it quickly after I recieved the letter.

I applied today. I hope I have a chance. So many people applied early, yet I was still in decision about where I wanted to go till the last minute. I have DA status if that helps.

Sorry for going off topic.

How are your essays? I worked mine to attempt to get a step ahead of the others since mine were late.

I don’t have any insider information, but your thought process is similar to mine. I’m studious but I wanted a social life. I have been told that the students in KLLC are more studious and tend to not party as much, but that you can just walk for a min and get to a party. This is probably best. Not all kids at IU are what i’d call “brainiacs” and some over-party. So I guess it will be best in the end to be with the studious group during the week and have some fun with the others during the weekend.

As much as I love the KLLC, I think it is important to acknowledge the downsides of living there.

Competition is exaggerated because you can never get away from it–like in high school, we were competitive, etc., but you could come home and relax. As a KLLC resident, I come back to the dorm and through the wall hear the girl next door screaming at her mom on the phone, “NO MOM, THREE Bs IS NOT OKAY.” I sit there thinking, “Three Bs really isn’t a big deal” and then quickly realize, “**** man, if I had three Bs I’d kill myself.” There’s so much pressure and so much competition. In the KLLC, everyone is in the same classes and striving for the same things (like the Business Honors Program, for example). It gets really intense. I would say that the KLLC is a very high-stress environment. I personally thrive off that but I know others, especially as freshman, may not.

It’s far more convenient to take the classes in McNutt just because it is so close to your room.

There are some sections of Business Presentations and I want to say Computers in Business that are only for KLLC kids and that are in McNutt. I strongly recommend those because there is a lot of group work for those classes. Taking them with other KLLC kids makes meeting so much easier. You’re probably more likely to have a better group, too, since it’s harder for a member to slack when you all live together, etc.

^^Those were posts from other threads in which I’ve discussed the KLLC. The KLLC has undergone a lot of changes since I lived there. When I lived there, everyone in the KLLC could access every floor of the KLLC, which made meeting people easy and made IU and Kelley feel a lot smaller. I know that as of this year, that access was revoked.

I liked the KLLC when I lived there, though, because there was innumerable leadership opportunities and a vast budget for cool activities. I also haven’t had a single business class in which another former KLLC-er wasn’t also there, which is nice. It’s cool to have such a wide network.

Thank for the reply. I’d say it seems like i’m fairly similar to you in most regards, and the posts from other people. You mentioned alot of social activities in the center and interactions which I enjoy. I’m not going to be one of those kids who says “I like to study hard, and play harder”, but are their enough kids in the center who are engaged in those social activites you spoke of in the KLLC, and outside the center(for instance sporting games)??

I loved the KLLC. Great people. You will find your niche whether it be party people, people who study hard and party hard, or people that don’t party at all. There is a diverse group of people.
