I just got rejected, not deferred, from Wharton ED, and it made me realize that my chances for Duke and Princeton RD are virtually non-existant.
All of my stats are good except for my 2110 sat..... so i've narrowed it down to either Lehigh or BC.

Lehigh is closer, and i think that i could possibly get some merit scholarships there.

My dilemma is as follows: I woud love to attend either school, and i dont want to risk not getting into either. I'm considering applying ED round two to Lehigh. Do you think it's worth the commitment just to secure a spot at one of those schools?

Stats:

Very competitive public school
SAT: M 750 CR 690 W 670
GPA: 3.7 UW 4.42/5 W
Rank: 52/897

Will graduate with 7 varsity letters
- Captain of the lacrosse team, varsity since grade 9
- won multiple awards for lacrosse

Started my own business with nothing but a business plan, now i co-own the LLC - brought in nearly 50K last year

Volunteer firefighter

President of FBLA - Won state awards in 10th and 11th grade

Various awards and work experiance

any input would be appreciate, i just cant seem to make a decision

I really can’t see anything wrong with your app except maybe low-ish class rank, but you’re still in the top 5-10%. My advice would be to skip another ED round. Just apply to whatever RD schools you want, including Princeton.

thanks, i put a lot of time into that business. You think i still stand a chance at schools like princeton/duke? My course load hasn’t been tremendously difficult, i will graduate with about 9 AP’s out of a possible 15, and i’m an upper/middle class white male, so i dont think my SAT’s are gonna cut it

maybe you can test in January? (I think the deadline is Dec 26)

You’ll be fine as long as your display your passion (and not sound ■■■■■■-y, and I’m not saying you’re like that, but some people are) in your essays, I think you’ll be perfectly fine.

i appreciate the input. My origional train of thought was that if i can’t even get deferred from Wharton why would equally competitive schools accept me in the RD round?

Wharton is uberly competitive. People with near perfect scores get rejected.
I myself got deferred… I’m thinking it was my SAT score.
It’s a crapshoot, don’t think any less of yourself

I agree with zha000 Wharton admissions are extremely competitive, don’t be so harsh on yourself.

Lehigh & BC both have good business schools and they are selective and competitive in their own right, but IMO I don’t think as severe as Wharton. Unless you’re 100% sure about wanting to attend Lehigh, or any other school for that matter, I would say skip the EDII round and take a good look at all your options.

Effrum: As we have very similar stats and we are also applying to Lehigh RD, i do not think that their merit scholarship situation is particularly strong. In fact, I do know someone there who was a valedictorian of her class, got a fairly small award her first year and was told it was only a one year scholarship…she is now paying full fare…When we visited (which I recommend doing…they get pretty ****y about people applying from tri-state area who don’t visit), they were extremely vague and evasive about merit scholarship. Financial aid based on need is another story…I cannot speak about that…
