Knockin' on MIT's door ............

Hi
I am from India. I want to do a major in Neuroscience and Computers. Do I have a chance???
I am sure my essays are going to be fantastic. Why? I gave them 1.5 years of thought. My recs are in the process now ... they'll be top-notch too ... my Physics teacher loves my research on neural networks and my English teacher for my recent play. So ......... CHANCE ME!!! As accepted or rejected.

My Profile ---

Grades ---
94% in Class 10
90% in Class 12
Courses are really really tough ... eg, we got Quantum Mechanics in Physics and Combinatorics in Maths .. so that really tough (at least I think so ....)

SAT I - 2360/2400
SAT II - 2340/2400

ECs ---

id say... accepted... based on the objective parts of the application.
in the end, i think the essays need to complement the rest of the application, and if they are really fantastic as you say (im just saying...), you stand a great chance.

Really???? Whoaaaaaa!!!! But I'm an international. Doesn't that make it tougher to the power infinity???

Nobody ever said international-toughness didn't lie within or on the complex unit circle.

And by that I get that differential is a math major. Good analogy! But .. what do you think? Is penetration of the circle possible in my case??? Please do comment .....

bob dylan kicks ass

Yep he sure does!!!! But what about my chances?????

I'm sure most people here would agree that you're in the ballpark for what you need to get in, but what will put you through and demonstrate your match to the school will be your essays. International competition is incredibly difficult, but you look like you can handle a challenge have worked this hard so far, so I would go ahead and apply

If you are anything like I was when I applied, I didn't really care about my chances of getting. I just knew that if I didn't apply to MIT it would probably be a decision that a small part of me would always regret. Now that I'm entering the class of 2012, I'm very glad I applied. Getting in as an international is a crapshoot, but you might as well apply. The worst that happens is as if you hadn't applied in the first place, plus writing a few extra essays.

Thanks! That was really nice. Now on .. I won't think a second on improving my ECs then .... Essays ... here I come!!!!

It's all about the passion you show..

It'll be tough man. I've heard people say that so many people apply from India for so few spots that you need some kind of INTERNATIONAL recognition to get in. I'd also apply to some not so top tier schools. I have a cousin who got into Cornell from India and he wasn't as strong as you.

BTW, it's nice to see another Indian appreciating good old rock n' roll. Do you like Guns n' Roses? They covered Knockin' on Heaven's Door. Believe it it or not the Indians here feel some kind of need to show the whole world they're proud of their culture so they go blasting garbage like bollywood and bhangra. Uggh.

Nah ... I am more into rock n roll .... floyd is my fav followed by gnr and then metallica ......... I have got international recognition ... I got the Quality Circle Award .... Are you from India???

wow...the internats here are quite competitive ><;; if you were a citizen you'd be a shooin

But if you were a citizen you wouldn't have helped local villagers sell their cottage goods nor would you have led the Save the Tigers campaign!

are you saying we don't have villagers or tigers!?!??!

I think some 5 people get in from India every year. :/

Hehe! Villagers and tigers ...... I dunno ... there even villagers are shown to have cars .... maybe they would help me ....... Whats this whole thing about India??? Only 5 people .... is there a cap or something???

MIT has limited financial aid for internationals. Also it would be very unfair to other countries if MIT was routinely taking some of their best students.

As an Indian, I know about the brain-drain that has happened for quite a while with people coming to the US.

You have a strong app, certainly worth applying.
But no one can guarantee you anything.

You have to realize that most ppl on this site are Americans, and most of us are only really familiar with the system for domestics.

Also, I'd like to remind you to please keep financial in mind, and be ready for anything, b/c MIT doesn't promise to meet full need for int'l students.

MIT clearly says it is committed to meet 100% Need for Internationals ..... is there anything wrong? I couldn't take part in the Olympiads and other Int'l competitions as I had to take care of my ailing father. Its true. Will MIT understand that? But I did continue my research while I was at home ... do I mention this??
