My daughter is interesting in Augustana College,IL.Does any one know this college and the Rock Island?Since there is no forum of this college .How about this college?thanks?

My sister-in-law (15 years ago), nephew (5 years ago), and a friend’s child (current) all really liked Augustana. A good all-around college experience. The Quad Cities are a reasonably good place to live - not in the middle of nowhere, by any means.

I am an Augustana College graduate and have stayed connected to my alma mater over the last 20 years. It was, and remains, an incredible educational experience, for those lucky enough to decide to attend. I have been a college professor myself at a service academy and at a large public university, and I went to grad school at three different big universities, including one that is a “top 10” school, and I still feel Augie was the best of the lot. In four years at Augustana, I never talked to a TA or flunkee; always the actual Ph.D. teaching each class. I never sat in a lecture hall full of students. I was never unable to talk to any administrator or school official to help resolve any situation. To this day, I still get notes from classmates, from teammates (I ran track there; and could never have done that at a Div II or Div I school), and from former professors. My former English professor sent me an Augustana College application out of the blue when he found out I’d had my first child. Liberal arts colleges are not for everyone, but if you or your child is interested in a small school, you would do well to visit Augustana. It is a true gem, and changed my life forever. A magical place still.

We recently had a visit and met the friendliest admissions department of any college we have visited. The students are among the most fit in the country and I can see why with the college built into a hill with an upper and lower campus. Lots of stairs and ramps. Took Advil for my knee after the tour! The freshman 15 lbs here might be losing it rather than gaining it. Buildings are tucked in trees so that there isn’t a panoramic overview but very attractive in an understated way. We visited the music department and while the facilities are somewhat in need of updating the faculty rocked. Everyone in the building was having a good time with lots of laughing and playing around. Amazing music filled the halls from several practice rooms. And they LUUUUVVVV their nonmajor musicians. Student pop was primarily from Chicago suburbs from what we saw but the kids were all nice. Since we’re not from Illinois it’d be an experience. In the science building the faculty offices open to a spiral staircase. We stood at the top and looked down 3 stories and almost all doors were open with faculty chatting with students. Very cool - really impressed daughter. After the visit and looking at the generous merit packages this school moved up to top 3. Every alum we have met had a great experience and has a very successful life (emotionally and financially).
