I'm taking Junior S there tomorrow for a visit day. We're exploring small to mid size privates in Ohio. Just curious about any tidbits anyone can offer about positives/negatives, the town, the students, etc.

I'm from southern Ohio, and hadn't previously heard of Ashland University. I checked out their website and I imagine they aren't well known because of their size, and because they don't look to be very selective. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Small is fine with my son as long as there are opportunities. I have known a couple of people who have visited but have been held back by the price. Prestige is not on our "A" list - good fit and opportunites are!!!!

Hiram is great, as small to mid size colleges in Ohio go. I have not heard of Ashland.

Robin Meade, the news anchor for CNN Headline News who is pretty famous
Robin Meade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
went to Ashland University.

A friend of mine is a professor of education there. I understand it is quite strong in that area.

Just reporting back that we had a GREAT visit and we're happily surprised and will definitely keep it on his short list.

Nice size campus with "campus feel " for a student body of only 2200, much new construction in the form of new academic buildings for Education, Business and Sport Sciences and newly renovated Science.

Had a really cool glassed in room in the business building - Ashland's "stock exchange" of sorts, where business students get to actually use endowment funds from the school (don't ask me for all the details!) to trade and (hopefully) made their $$ increase! Guess it's a popular place for students/staff to observe and gets pretty crazy just like the real stock exchange.

Cafeteria has been rated top 10 and more than once #1 in the nation for college food. Division II sports. Students sound like they experience field work experience as freshman and sophomores.

Great student tour guide. Great 1st visit to campus experience for both my son and I. We will likely definitely make a return visit at some point.

He's got Xavier on the brain so that will probably be our next visit...

Thanks for the tidbits you posters provided!!!
