Just wondering. I am hoping that sats aren't the be all and end all. Sigh.

Not sure on this one, but from what i've seen, SATs are becomming less and less of a factor, unless they are ABOMINABLE, I don't think they will decide whether you are in or not.
What is your idea of lowish?

well, my godsister got into Stanford based on her essays alone, but that was like 15 years ago. And I will say that SATs don't hold as much weight at Gtown than they do at other schools, as said by the Gtown admissions department.

Thanks. 580math, 590CR, 660 writing. Just doesn't do well on standardized tests, but does well in every other academic area. ACT was only 26. She took sat and act twice. ECs aare great and unique, fabulous essay about her dual citizenship with Ireland. Well see....

Those SATs won't help her, but they aren't an automatic deferral or rejection either, colleges will really look at other factors more.

bump...;))

in another thread someone mentioned having a friend who got in with a score of about 1040, so a score of 1170 certainly doesn't make it impossible

"And I will say that SATs don't hold as much weight at Gtown than they do at other schools, as said by the Gtown admissions department."

As says every admissions department. Why don't we look at actual numbers, shall we? http://www.georgetown.edu/undergrad/admissions/firstyear2005profile.html

People with under 600s in EITHER of the areas get in with a 9-10% rate. I shudder to think of the percentage chances if it's under 600 in BOTH. Georgetown, as is reflected by the numbers, is actually one of the MORE number driven schools.

Well, some chance is better than none at all! Thanks...

My apologies, I'm sick right now and that came off as a little strong. I don't know you or your situation and I'm not an adcom, so I don't really know your chances.

Yea, it seems everyone is sick right now. I always seem to get sick after Thanksgiving.

Know where the other thread is that mentions someone getting in with an sat of 1040? I am curious to know what his/he "hook" was...

srry, i don't remember what thread it was in. but all he said was that his friend had a 1040 but still got in, no more detail than that.

Here's one for you. In my school's directory, I saw someone who got inot Georgetown w/ a 1020. Yes, you did read that correctly, it is a 1020/1600. I don't know the student, but all I know was that he was accepted. Must have had some major hook or something. There was also someone accepted into SUNY Binghamton w/a 900/1600.

(Would someone please view my NYU Supplement thread in the College Admissions section of this site. iw ould really appreciate some help because I'm in a bit of a dilemma now.)

Remember Georgetown isn't excluded from the list of colleges that accept kids based on their parents' assets or affiliations.

lol yeah, i hear they do that quite a bit.
of course no where near as much as stanford, but it definately is known.
