I'm sure that there are a number of Scholar Athletes out there. I mean, there's a purpose for this title, right?

its not that hard to get this...at my school anyway, all you need is a 3.3 ...so a ton of people get it

i go to an elite magnet school, so everyone is smart, and just about everybody does at least one sport. we have quite a bit of star athletes who go to the ivies or other top schools on both athletic and academic scholarships. a lot of guys on our crew team get recruited by princeton...so yes, you can be both smart and athletic!

My good friend is amazing at colorguard (which involves a lot of athletic and performance ability) and got a 1580 on her SATs (perfect in math). She's in the honors program at UNC-CH and is a near genius (also the nicest person you'll ever meet). :)

Another friend of mine was the captain of three sports teams at my school and was the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, among other things. Very smart guy (and 7th in a class of 520). He got a full ride at Chapel Hill last year. See, the difference with him, though, is that he isn't a star athlete. He was the captain of those varsity teams because he's just a natural leader..so I don't know if he's "athletically gifted" as much as responsible and disciplined..

I am :-D

I, yes I am bragging, contradict the stereotype mentioned.

Varsity Basketball (Most Valuable Player)
Varsity Volleyball
1500m Record Holder for school
800m Record Holder
400m Record Holder

ALSO

Class President

ALSO

4.0 GPA

ALSO 2100+ SAT so far.

So I'd say I'm doing well in both ^^v

Plus I run a $10,000 a year business :) ^^

Not THAT much, but pretty good for a junior. Tuesdays only too.

P.S. If anyone wants to know how I manage things, feel free to ask/PM me for help in anything.

It's all about balance baby.
In this order my uncle always said:

1) School
2) Basketball
3) Girlfriend

Surprisingly, I've managed all 3 fairly well.

Yes.

Me.

:)

Protege is on the money. Although you'd be a little stronger in number 1 if you neglected number 3. Not that it matters with your affinity for number 2. ;)

What's your business, protege?

how gifted? i know a kid that lettered in five sports (golf, football, basketball, baseball, and track) in one year. (school allows participation in two sports in the same season). said kid was all-conference in golf (unanimous), all conference (unanimous) and all state in football (MVP, too!), all conference basketball, all conference track and qualified for the state track meet. a pretty decent ACT composite, and top 10% of his class (no weighted grades). kids' biggest fear: that people will assume he's a dumb jock.

"Know someone both smart AND athletically gifted? "

it's obvious that hte combination doen't exist.

"it's obvious that hte combination doen't exist."

Well its obvious that multiple people have just proved that this DOES exist. Especially among people who are not only naturally talented, but who also foster their talent and work hard to show it.

And it's also quite obvious that you can't spell

look at his name lol

OF COURSE YOU'RE GONNA GET MAD STUCK-ON-1700 NOT THAT I CARE

What's your business, protege?

Reply: I run a tutoring business. A class of twenty students. I earn approximately $37 for 2 hour sessions of tutoring. I hire two other teachers to help me. They make $37/ 2 hour session. I have a packed class of 20 students.

An 8-week long session earns me about $5000 without the little rent I have to pay for.

"Protege is on the money. Although you'd be a little stronger in number 1 if you neglected number 3. Not that it matters with your affinity for number 2."

Hah!!! man That is so true :) But you gotta have fun in life. Of course, work first, then play.

I do the tutoring once at beginning of year, once near end. (school year)

$5000+$5000 = 10,000 :) !!

At our school the over half the "smart" people at least do sports, and many of the top 3 or 4 in the class are often quite good.
There must be people like this or the Ivy League wouldn't be Division I.

Restating : "P.S. If anyone wants to know how I manage things, feel free to ask/PM me for help in anything. "

If anyone ever feels they have too much to do. I can help you manage your time. Teach you some basic steps haha. Easy stuff.

I manage basketball team, volleyball team, grades, business, and a girlfriend at the same time. And do fairly well.

Feel free anytime guys. I'm Out. peeacee

The ivy league is mainly division I out of tradition.

The perfect example of someone who is athletically and intellectually gifted is Nick Hartigan, signed as a free agent by the NY Jets, and is a Rhodes Scholar finalist who is deferring his admission to Harvard Law to try and make it in the NFL.

Beat that

Oh trust me there are people...I know this girl who was her Varsity tennis team's MVP and class valedictorian. And of course Yale, Princeton, and MIT all came knocking on the door.

How God blesses some people...

my brother isnt in high school yet (will be a freshman in september), but id hafta say hes quite gifted in terms of athletics and intelligence. he plays for the ny state olympic developmental program soccer team and is a star player on one of the top club teams in the state. he'll probably be the first freshman to make our school's varsity soccer team in a really long time. hes also starting point guard for his travel basketball team and will most likely start at pg on JV his freshman year. in terms of intelligence, my brother's not brilliant, but hes a smart kid and from wat i kno abt the ppl in his grade he will most like graduate from hs in the top decile of his graduating class
