PSAT 227
Florida, will be NMSF

top two schools:
Princeton, Duke

Others:
Wake Forest, Washington and Lee, Dartmouth, Rice, UVA, Davidson, Richmond, Lafayette, UF

Have Visited:
UVA, W+L, WAKE, DUKE

Which of these schools track interest? Which two should I name as my top two choices for the NMC program thing? I loved all four schools I visited. I assume the two ivies, Duke, UVA wouldn't care and that W+L and WAKE I've already visited. I've heard Rice tracks interest. UF I'll get in w/ alot of money so that's out of the question. Thanks for all your help.

But UF gives you a ton of money for NMSF... I'm putting them down, and I gotta find one of my safer schools up north...

if you think theres a decent chance of UF, definitely put them. THey're the only one on that list that gives good NM aid ($24,000, at least that's what they're giving me my year, it could even go up) all the others would give probably 2k tops. Common sense, if you don't put duke or Pton and end up there you only lost 2k, if you don't put UF but end up there you're out 24k...If you don't put them as your first choice with NM then you don't get a penny, and most of their other aid is all need based.

That's comming from a student who exhausted the NM search and all that, and no other school could compare to UF's combonation of good school and great money, especially when it's combined with bright futures.

u all r confusing two things, sry i wasnt clear, im a junior and the national merit ppl just give u the oppotunity to tell two colleges that you are interested. this has nothing to do with the money you get eventually, its a recruiting tool some schools react to. if i got in to nowhere but florida i could designtate that as the first choice in the spring of senior year and get the money

I am not sure but i dont think that national merit is a big thing for the two ives. So you might want to put different schools since they will be more impressed.

It really doesn't matter. If you are interested in getting mail from particular schools, list them... if not, don't worry about it.

I guarantee you that every school that actively recruits NM finalists will find out about you anyway and send lots of mail.

I agree with Calmom - word gets out about NM status.

There are better ways of demonstrating interests - visiting, interviewing, emailing the admissions rep with questions, etc.

thanks y'all, my counselor said that it didn't really matter for now, just wanted a second opinion
