has anyone lived in the knox box appartments or the university view apartments? i am looking to get some housing within walking distance of campus and i've found vacancies in each.

check out this thread:

Knox Box pros

Should be cheaper than the View (if not, go with the View!)

Closer to business school/South Campus

Cons

Ugly as sin (esp. the cheaper basement apartments - the walls are…wood panels? Eh?)

Not as secure as an apartment complex (I have heard stories of houses being broken into; maybe this is a case of the door being unlocked, but…)

View pros

More security (apartment complex, bus stop right in front of the building, etc.)

Closer to engineering

Cons

So expensive it’s a sin

Heard the construction can wake you up in the early morning (they are building a new View building right in front of the old one, on the Route 1 side)

In terms of the size of the apartments, you should ask specifically and compare as Knox boxes especially vary! You should also ask about whether non students are allowed to rent/who your roommates are, if it matters to you. The View (I’m pretty sure) is 100% students and Knox Boxes, if not 100% students, are very close to it.

Be careful with Knox Box. The property manager, Gosia Sylla, does not know how to effectively deal with people, and is a total pain to deal with. A lot of people have asked me if they should live in Knox Box and I say no because it means dealing with her. Seriously, don’t do KB if you can… not worth the pain.
